Pad Patter: 10/2 meals?

This week we have a plan as we work toward a more whole food, plant based diet. The week goes better with a plan, but I am inconsistent about creating one.

I grocery shop on Mondays, so I pick 5-7 meals and make my list based on what I need for those meals and then the list goes on the frig and I let everyone vote for which of those meals they want each night. You know, unless I really want something else and then I don't ask their opinion and I make what I want. :giggle

I plan about 5-6 meals for the week for dinner. Lunches are packed and breakfasts too. I usually decide what to cook based on schedules for the night and timing. Yesterday was pizza night, and leftovers (DH smoked a pork loin, and a chicken - YUM!). Tonight was a Beef, plus Mushrooms and Zucchini Stroganoff with Egg Noodles. Tomorrow is soccer night, so either Hot Dogs/French Fries/Fruit or Breakfast for dinner. Then for the rest of the week I have a my special Turkey Meat Sauce/Pasta Night, Fake Chicken Cordon Bleu and an Enchilada night.

I ask the boys what veggies they want since they know they have to eat them. Usually it's asparagus, Broccoli, Brussel Sprouts, and Zucchini. They can also help choose what meals we pick for the week - whether it's Enchiladas or Tacos, or another night could be Onion Chicken or Lemon Chicken. They choose those things, just not the actual meal. Otherwise we would have breakfast for dinner every night!

Yes, I do some meal planning. DH eats gluten-free, so I make all of our meals GF and have to plan for/around that.

a little of both. We have our standards on hockey game nights...the boy is picky (and superstitious) about what he wants to eat on a game night and the time of when the meal is.

Some weeks I have it all planned out and others I just wing it, grab whatever out of the freezer and create from there. Tonight will be leftover potato bacon soup that we had last night or baked penne leftover from Monday.

I try to have snacks or different breakfast items for a choice. I make a big batch of pancakes and freeze them as well as some breakfast burritos in the freezer so the boy can have a hot breakfast if he wants instead of cereal every morning.
