Yesterday DH & I spent the entire day at a Locks of Love event for one of our friend's daughter who is going thru cancer treatment. She's 24 and has 2 children ages 2 and 4 and the 2 year old has cerebral palsy. This young lady has such a big heart and helping others so it was our turn to help her. We had a huge turnout and raised a lot of money.
Have you partipated in a cause? Which one? Did you walk away with a wonderful feeling? I know we did!
I'm actually gearing up for my big haircut soon! January 24th is the big day! The bottom layer is almost down to my waist and it's driving me crazy so I can't wait.
Growing it out for charity was just something I randomly decided to do a few years ago, but since then I've lost an aunt to cancer so it will be all the more meaningful.
Ella did Locks of Love last year. I was so proud of her. My hair isn't donatable (is that a word??) b/c it's so processed.
I've done the Susan G. Komen 5k a few times as well as the Children's Miracle Network 5k (in honor of my miracle boys). I'm going to be helping my sister with a few events coming up to raise money and awareness for kidney cancer, which her husband passed from in August.
When my sister was diagnosed with breast cancer (over 5 years ago now), I canceled my regularly scheduled haircut and grew it out for Locks of Love. My younger sister did the same thing, and my hairstylist cut hers and sent it in with mine.
I wanted to cut mine and I would've met the minimum length to donate but DH looked at me and shook his head. I could tell by the look on his face that he really didn't want me to do it. So, I'll wait until the next one.
My hair is SO thick that they were able to get four donations out of it!!!! I can't wait to do it again! This will probably be the last time though. I think I am getting too old to have long hair! LOL
