Packing| Pad Patter 6.15

I make a list and try to pack light. I roll things up and if bringing shoes/boots, I stuff socks/pill bottles/glasses inside them.

We are headed to Ireland in a few weeks and this has me so stressed. The weather is all over the map unpredictable! Which doesn't help. And we are each only bringing our personal item and 1 small carry on - so we are sure to fit it in the rental car.
Ok, so the weather in Greece is supposed to go from 60's and rainy to 90's and sunny. Here's what was my mom's packing list from the tour agency:
3-4 pairs of shorts; 5-7 short sleeve shirts; 1-2 long sleeve shirts; 1-2 long pairs pants; pajamas; bathing suit; 2-3 pairs walking shoes; undergarments and socks; waterproof jacket; 1-2 medium-light weight jackets; skirt and nice shirt or dress; sunglasses; watch; converter; powerpack for phones, toiletries, laundry detergent.

They are mostly walking, no car, just a few bus trips. So, the plan is to wash their clothes at the hotel, and let them dry. My mom packed 2 pairs of pj's. She plans on showering before bed, so they won't get very dirty. She also went with 5 short sleeve, and 3 longer sleeve shirts because she is notorious for getting cold. All her shorts are capris, so they will work pretty good in cool weather. She packed a skirt, so all her shirts mix and match between the pants, shorts and skirt.

And @bellbird I think that's why it was annoying me so much that it took all day. She had a list straight from the agency with what to pack. I'm sure with no list, it would take me longer!

I've actually started keeping a list in Google Keep with my list for my parents house. I write down what we take, and if I discover I'm missing something or wish I packed something, I just add or subtract it from the list.

Oh! And she packed everything in space bags - the roll to close ones - so it all fit in a little bigger than a carryon. It would have fit in a carryon, but she was leaving room for souvenirs....I'm hoping for olive oil!

I'm a huge procrastinator, which is terrible when it comes to packing. We always end up leaving later than planned because of it! Unless it's a flight of course, but if we're just driving somewhere I always underestimate how long it will take me. I tend to under pack - maybe because I'm in such a hurry? - but also because I hate having tons of stuff on a trip. I'd rather make the stop and pick up whatever it is we forgot, there are usually stores along the way we can grab anything we need.

We just returned from flying to Washington DC and it actually took me about 10 minutes to pack clothes and then about 15 minutes the morning before we left to finish up with cords/makeup

I do lots of lists and try not to overpack. Travel size toiletries are a must. Before having a kid, I'd bring one carryon with clothes/cosmetics/shoes etc and a bag with yarn and crochet hooks! LOL! Now there is no time or room for hobbies...

@bestcee Right now the weather here in Athens-Greece is so unpredticable and so not summery! We've had almost no rain in April, and it rains in June! It's freaking me out...
Let me know how your family liked their vacation!

I spent more time packing camera gear and figuring out podcasts to download than I did packing for our weeklong trip to California last week. I do overpack though. I think I ended up with at least three unworn shirts and one pair of unworn pants. Clara underpacked and spent our last morning smelling her clothes to figure out which outfit she could get by with wearing again that wouldn't gross out our seat mate on the flight home.

I pack light, but it takes me forever to pack. I just can't decide what I want to wear. I usually end up trying on everything before it goes in the suitcase, just so I can make sure it'll work ok. Hubby on the other hand is a master packer. He packs light and rolls everything so it stays unwrinkled and fits well. He travels a lot for work and has had lots of practice over the last ten or twelve years. He can pack his bag and be out the door in less than 30 minutes. Us girls drive him crazy when we go on family trips because it takes us so long to pack. We have to start the night before and even then it takes a couple of hours. DD 17 is the worst because she takes twice as much as the rest of us and complains that she has nothing to wear when we get there. One trip she had 3 jackets packed and still talked my hubby into buying her another jacket in Disneyland. She's got him wrapped around her little finger... hehe She's definitely a daddy's girl.

I'm a perfect packer. I take all the things! :giggle

Just kidding I spend more time on making my list and then it's just a matter of gathering those things and it usually doesn't take more than an hour to do my packing and then force my boys to do their packing.

I have a list and a spot for my suitcase(s). Since I prefer to travel with just a carry-on and personal item, I've whittled my list WAY down. LOL I'd say I'm under two hours for packing, but it's in small increments of time over a couple of days.
