Outside chores | Pad Patter 10.1.17

I pay some lovely gentlemen to come and take care of it for me... I don't mind some of it, but I hate the bugs and the little splinters... I plant some things, and buy some things for hubby to plant, but I try to avoid the serious work of it as much as possible, lol!

HAHAHAHA!! Yes!! I'm glad we can finally leave a small cup of milk for the 5 year old to pour into her cereal without making a HUGE mess!!

It's a wonderful day when they can make meals for themselves! Some days I am grateful we all made it to that point haha!

There are certain parts of my yard that require cleats! The whole thing is a slope, but some parts are steeper than others. I've been in this house going on 27 years and I still don't have all the landscaping where I'd like it lol, but I've just done things when I can.

We live in the city, so we don't have much outdoor space and have a lawn service to take care of what little we do have (mainly because we don't have anywhere to store a lawnmower and such). I have high hopes that I will garden more once the kids are out of the house.... with all of their activities, spring always gets away from me and I realize too late that I should have planted stuff. Our big outside chore coming up is to store the outdoor furniture we have up on the garage roof deck. It's like Jenga trying to find room for it all in the garage. Since my son got his car, we only have room to store the cushions and the rest has to be pushed together and covered with a tarp on the deck. I just realized yesterday that I was supposed to be watering the new sod in the parkway in front of our house. My husband was doing it, but he left on an overseas business trip a couple of weeks ago and I forgot all about the grass until I noticed that it was brownish and crispy yesterday. I've been watering it and hoping it perks up before my husband gets home tomorrow! lol!

I do the weeding of the flower beds and pruning of the bushes and make hubby mow and edge the grass. He also has a leaf blower, but it's only been used once. I used to love working in the yard, but since my fibromyalgia flared up a couple of years ago, I haven't had the desire to be out there working as much. I had a yard makeover last year and we took out a lot of the high maintenance stuff and put down tarp and bark, so I haven't had to weed as much this summer. It was so nice. I do miss all my pretty annuals, but I don't miss the work to plant them and keep them looking nice.

Ugh. This thread reminded me that I've got to clear out the bird nest in our gas fireplace's "chimney." So, that's tonight's outdoor chore. But usually it's just taking care of dead summer plants, like cutting down sunflower stalks. Or it's planting my fall pretties, like the mums I planted last week. DH takes care of lawn mowing and leaf mulching. He says it's his exercise lol.
We only have one large tree that we need to really pick up its leaves. Our next door neighbors, however, have a few. Fortunately he has a riding mower so he'll just do a few passes on our lawn to take care of "his" leaves that have blown into our yard. I want some evergreen trees simply so we don't have to worry about leaf-raking. Neither DH or I like that chore. (Plus, I think a Blue Spruce would look really pretty in our yard lol.)

I enjoy planting flowers and other plants and pruning/deadheading things. I don't like the routine hedge trimming and lawn mowing. Plus here in AZ, there is mostly gravel which you have to keep clean with a leaf blower. I've never acquired that skill and the few times I've tried it, stuff has just flown everywhere. So, we have lawn guys who handle all that.

I have high hopes for when the kids are grown as well :) And I'm glad you mentioned the outdoor furniture. I need to get on that before the cold sets in!!

I like the low maintenance stuff as well. I have planted a lot of perennials over the years so I don't have to fuss as much :)

Every time I mow I say it's my exercise, too. I count it as a workout :) I try to do the same thing, ride over the leaves and it works well unless I let them get too deep...then even the riding mower won't go through them.

Blowing I don't mind so much, I'm pretty good with one after all these years. But I agree, I don't like hedge trimming...so I cut down my hedges lol.

I do everything unless I pull one of my kids into helping me out. I love gardening, but the mosquitoes love me so much that I have to curtail my time outside during mosquito season. I can't rake the leaves due to the mold, but otherwise I love it all! Being outside is so refreshing. I really need to do it more.

I do every friggin' thing in this house so you BEST BELIEVE my husband is in charge of anything outside of it!
