Organize Your Pad!

I also don't tag. I sort everything by designer and file the products previews in categories.

For my CU stuff this means I have a folder with flower previews of all flower products and I have a folder with button previews and so on. For my PU I have folders with kits, with alphas, with papers and so on.

Probably a weird way to sort things but it works for me...LOL

No, I don't think you understood what I said at all. There is no such thing as an XMP file. XMP metadata *IS* integrated into the file itself, just like EXIF metadata is embedded into JPEGs. PNG does not support EXIF, but it does support XMP. If a program writes to XMP of a PNG, then it is part of the PNG. It is not in its own file. The problem is not every program writes to or reads the XMP metadata.

So, it seems that even though I can embed the data in a png file, it still can only be read by certain programs -- unlike embedding data in a jpg, psd, or tiff file which can be read almost universally.

I guess the bottom line is that there really isn't a way to embed the data for png files so that it is universally transportable to any other organization system.

I tried to tag digi supplies once but gave up. I use Finder instead and it works pretty well. I agree with Anne that if a designer labels their stitch as "element7" instead of "stitch", it gets lost. But enough do an excellent job at labeling (thank you, Lilypad Designers) that I can usually come up with enough options when I need something.

same for me!

I tag nothing.

I sort pictures in folders by year/month/then event.

Digi supplies get searched with Window Explorer search. If a button isn't named button... I'm never using it again. :)

Oooooh I like my organization system bc it's so easy. I use iPhoto. All my photos and scrap kits go in. I import photos once a month. I unzip and import kits as soon as i get them. I tag as soon as I import. It takes me an hour max if I have tons of stuff to do...and I usually do it while the hubs is hogging the tv with a sporting event :thumbsdowns

Each kit is its own event, the preview is the Key Photo, and they are alphabetized by designer. I don't know why that works for me but it does. Photos are organized chronologically. All kits get dragged to the top of my photostream and all photo events get dragged to the bottom.

I tag using the keyword feature. Press command k to pull up the menu. I made keywords - 1 for papers, 2 for embellishments, 3 for frames, 4 for ribbons, 5 for journaling and word art, etc... I also made keywords for each member of the family (a for Andy...) and other things like b for birthdays, c for church, x for christmas, etc. I literally press the arrow keys through each photo/kit element and add the keywords as fast as iPhoto can keep up.

The search feature in iPhoto searches by keyword, title of item, title of event. I have lots of options to find things. I :heartslub organizing in iPhoto. I've been doing this for 4 years and wouldn't change it!

I feel I'm pretty organised and am not tagging! ;-) For me, personally that's a huge waste of my time.

My photos are on an external HD and are sorted by year/month. I use Lightroom to cul and make first edits.
My scrapstuff is also on an external HD (thinking of buying a NAS/RAID backup system) organised by store/designer.

As soon as I download a kit I delete the TOU and other fluff I don't need and copy the preview to the folder for easy browsing. I'm on a Mac and do a search for flower/stitch etc in the folder a from certain designer (when I do a CT page) or for the whole kit folder. When I'm not sure what I want or need I just browse by previews. This works great for me!

I don't tag. I search using Finder on my MAC and rely heavily on a good naming system by the designer. So if I want a button I just type "button" and I choose from whatever shows up, which is generally plenty to choose from!

I also use this system to purge my stash. I never EVER use bows or twirly ribbons on my pages, so I search ribbons, then select all the ones I don't want - or repeats - and i flush them! GONE! Same for any other category.

I'm Mac and use Bridge for my scrap stash and Lightroom for my photos.

In Bridge, I don't tag and rely on the designers' naming system if I'm looking for a frame, staple, etc. They do a great job, so it works for me. I will tag kits based on theme for some...i.e. Christmas, Birthday, etc. That's about as far as my tagging system goes. I keep the items together and just scroll through Bridge looking for inspiration most of the time.

In Lightroom, I will keyword images loosely based on location mainly. I don't really refer to those keywords when I'm looking for an image though. I look at my images so much that I kind of have a photographic (pun intended) memory of them and know where to look for a specific image I have in mind.

I dont tag, all my Digi supplies are saved in designer folders within store named folders, if the designer moves store then I move them over to that folder

I have templates in another folder within each store (although ATM I'm only scrapping with lilypad goodies)

I use the search function within a folder too, the lilypad designers rock at naming the files xx

I don't know if that's what you mean, but I simply make little sub-files in my Windows Explorer... like, I buy a new kit and then have a file "Elements". From that, I make little sub-files like "flowers", "leaves", "ribbons" and so on...
I would be lost without that, to be honest.

I tag - it's what I use that's starting to maybe be the not so good thing. So wish ACDSee's embed metadata function was not proprietary and it would actually flow so I could convert all of database to Adobe Bridge! I'm terrified to lose that.

digi tags - previews, stores, designers, themes (holidays, seasons, school, etc.), paint, brushes, etc.

photos are stored in folders by year, month, date Need to settle and pick The One to Rule the Tag... oh, boy.... be it LR, Bridge or ACDSee and stick.
