Can any of you savvy designers point me in the direction of some great tutorials for designing digi-scrap elements, papers, etc.? How did you learn, what is your advice, and do you prefer a mouse or a pen/tablet? Do you use just PS or do you use something else to help you? Anything to help, would be so appreciated! :beat
Thanks!!:flirty

I'm not a designer but I gave it a try! A pen is almost a definite must. To start out with get yourself some CU products and go from there. I'll pm you a couple of handy links :)

I have a pen/tablet, I use cs3, and I ask other designers and search the internet for tutorials. Most of what i know comes from trial and error.

Ooh Eryn, me too please. I've been thinkibg of starting buy I was just going to dive in and hope I wouldn't sink to fast. Good luck!

pmd you! Though personally I would recommend giving up now! lol It is fun but it is so time consuming, so difficult to break into the market, so difficult to pull customers from their regular designers, hard to get into a good shop, you won't have as much time to scrap, and unless you are good enough and put in enough time to compete with the big designers then you make very little money.
Even some of the big designers say they get paid very little for the time they put in.

But I do enjoy making freebies and putting them on my blog...I just wish I had more time for it!

I use a pen/tablet, PSCS2, and AI. A good scanner is also important. I have used youtube for some non scrap related tuts on AI, etc., but am self taught for the most part. I used to do grapic design: brochures, newsletters, ads, etc for the last few companies I worked for, and freelanced as well, so I kinda knew my way around already. Good luck! It's fun, but I find I have no time to scrap anymore... just design, that's a downside. =0(

I use a pen/tabled, PSCS3 and AI as well. I never use my scanner but some people do. I mostly use my camera. I am also mostly self-taught as well. But it's really easy to find great tutorials just by doing a google search! Good luck!

I'm the odd one out, I use a mouse! :giggle I couldn't get to grips with my tablet at all. But most of my designing is done away from the computer (with real pens, paints, paper and messy hands!) so my art supplies and scanner are my most important tools. Best of luck!

I have AI and i use mouse too. I have the pen but can't seem to do anything with it. I tried drawing on the paper and scanning but extraction was PITA so gave up. :)

Kate, i don't know how you do it.

Ok i have officially started on my first kit. I find as i am putting stuff together all the designers here at TLP have some form of influence on me. It's pretty fun, my mom and i are working together making for some nice mother daughter time. But break time is over now and i shall get back to painting, snipping, and scanning.

ps. Kate, you are amazing at extractions! Care to share with us your secret?

OMG! You make all the gorgeous swirls with the mouse?! :D

Oh thank you!! :beat There's no secret though, just hours of click, click, click as I extract it all! It's by far my least favourite part of the whole process. I tend to do it in the evening while listening to / watching TV, it puts me in a kind of trance otherwise... :giggle

Can't wait to see your kit Heather!!

I can't even imagine how many hours (or days) are involved in extracting one of your doodle packs, Kate. I'd be cross-eyed ... probably with a migraine ...

Seriously, your doodles are made with a mouse? That is amazing! I was sure you drew them on paper!

Thanks girls. Yes,i have a wireless mouse. :) All my doodles are drawn in AI using the mouse. I have the bamboo tablet but haven't used it that much. I need to give it a try though.
