Obscure words or made-up words | Pad Patter 10.08.22

Ever since watching a spelling bee where this was a word, heiligenschein, we make sure we used it every time we actually see a heiligenschein. You know, so we sound really smart. LOL.

Definition: a bright light around the shadow of a person's head (as on a field or lawn) caused by diffraction and reflection of sunlight by dewdrops.

My daughter used to say lasterday (for yesterday) and so we still us that sometimes.

We have a family vocabulary of made-up words and sounds.

"Bogono" is for beef bourguignon, which was one of our son's favorite meals he couldn't pronounce well. We call it bogono to this day.

Teenageditude = teenager + attitude = our teenaged daughter, who believes she is a superstar who hasn't been discovered yet.

Puberpause = puberty (daughter) clashing with menopause (mother) in an explosion of hormones, often accompanied by loud voices, hair flips, and stomping feet of both parties involved in the exchange. I had my daughter just before turning 40, so the conflictual energy of puberpause is prevalent in our house.

13 years ago my husband and I were at a late night diner when the waitress was listing the current specials. One was a "pomegranian" milkshake (she mixed up the words pomegranate and pomeranian i guess) and we have been calling pomegranate "Pomegranian" ever since :giggle
