Hi everyone, this month we will be looking at different types of affirmations and making some affirmation cards, so I hope you will join me for this week’s challenge. We also have a couple of Guest Polly’s hosting this month so I am looking forward to seeing what sort of perspective they will bring to this month’s theme.

What is an Affirmation?
Simply put, affirmation statements/quotes encourage positive thinking, to either calm oneself or to boost our confidence. "I" statements can be a powerful tool in empowering ourselves. Reading an uplifting affirmation first thing in the morning is a great way to start your day off on a positive note. They can also encourage us to think more deeply on things which in turn may leave us with a feeling of peace, calm and clarity.

Affirmation statements can be read out loud or recited silently in your mind. When used consistently they can encourage a positive shift in mood, energy and intention. The power of affirmations is in the way they can help to reset our mindset into a more positive and energetic space, reminding us to focus on our own self-love and self-care.

Affirmations can be used for different areas such as; life changes; health; overcoming depression; your inner goddess; self confidence; new home; anxiety relief; healing; releasing the past; inner child; anger & resentment; success and the list goes on! :)

Affirmation cards are individual cards that have a powerful, positive statement written on them and can be styled in different ways. When printed out they can also be used in many ways, such as:
- putting them on a vision board
- using them as a mantra in meditation
- using them as journal prompts
- reading 1 - 5 affirmations a day, slowly and intentionally
- shuffling them and pulling out one a day as a focus for the day
- putting them into a decorative container and drawing one out when needed for inspiration
- leaving them around the house or office to view throughout the day

November Challenge:
During November we will be making our own Affirmation Cards, or any other type of card you want to make such as Prayer Cards, Quote Cards, etc.

Each week you will need to make three (3) cards, based on a theme provided by the challenge host for that week. There will be affirmation statements posted each week, based on the theme that the host has provided, along with an Inspiration Board. All you need to do is create a set of three (3) cards, each one featuring a different affirmation (or Bible verse, quote etc). If you end up doing all 4 weeks you will have 12 cards that have been designed by yourself to use.

There will be two options available this month regarding the way you create your cards, you can either go ‘Solo’ and just create the cards for yourself, or you can create your cards as part of a 'Group activity'. Just let me know which option you want to go with. More information below:

Two Options for the November Muse:
Option 1 - Going Solo:
Create your cards in any size or format you want on your own. If you wish you can then print them out and use as mentioned above, or you can use them digitally in your scrapbooking. You are not restricted to any card size.

Option 2 - Group Activity*: Create your cards to share with everyone. At the end of the month I will create a PDF from all of the cards and then send you a link to it so you can download and print out all the cards from everyone that has joined the group activity.
However, if you choose this option there are two things that you need to do:
1 - your card will need to be a specific size (2.5" x 3.5") so that all the cards collectively will be the same size which makes for a nicer looking deck, however the colours or materials you choose to make them with are totally up to you.

2 - you need to email me [email protected] your completed high resolution cards as individual jpeg files (high resolution is needed so they print out properly)

* You don't have to do all four (4) weeks in order to join the group activity, completing one week (3 cards) is enough.

Affirmation statements you can use if you wish:
  • I am open to the flow of great abundance in all areas of my life.
  • I am okay with saying NO to what doesn't serve me.
  • I can make mistakes and learn from them.
  • I am healing more and more every day.
  • I am a creative soul.
  • I am ready to allow miracles to flow into my life.
  • I am grateful for all I have.
  • I am grateful for all of my loved ones.
  • I am grateful for all I have achieved.
  • I am open and ready to learn.
  • I forgive myself for my mistakes.
  • I get better every single day.

Inspiration Board
There are also some great ones on this Inspiration Board, images taken from Pinterest, that will also give you some ideas for the actual design of your card.

Week 1 Challenge Rules:
  • Your three (3) affirmation cards should use a statement that begins with the word I eg, I am, I will etc. As I mentioned earlier, "I" statements can be a powerful tool in empowering ourselves as they speak directly to us.
  • Post your three cards here. If can also use them in a layout as I have done but it is not necessary. If you do create a layout please add your cards separately as I have done below.
  • Use any of the affirmation statements provided above or shown in the Inspiration Board or you can create your own which may be more meaningful to you.
  • Please let me know if you are going Solo or what to join the Group Activity
  • If you are joining the Group Activity please email me your completed individual jpeg files in high resolution format (300dpi)

My page:
Once I created my three cards I ended up using them in a layout. It took me a while to create the three cards as I kept getting different ideas I wanted to try out! LOL!! Creating the layout was far quicker to do!! :)

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You need to create three affirmation cards (ie. clean and simple, artsy, pocket style etc.) with or without a photo. This is for everyone, so have fun and see where the inspiration takes you. Please make sure to read ALL OF the challenge rules in pink above!:)

Please post your layout to the Art Journaling Gallery HERE prior to Midnight EST November 30, 2022 and then post it in this thread by copying the code (at the right of your gallery image) from the box under "Share BB Code".

We will draw a winner at the beginning of next month for a coupon!! Every layout you create is equal to one entry in the random draw. So if you create 1 layout you are entered once, if you create 4 layouts you are entered 4 times. :)

You can use any products in the Lilypad store or retired products from current Lilypad designers, (just make sure you follow our gallery guidelines).

Can't wait to see what you guys come up with!!!!

PRINTING TIP/SOLUTIONS:
If you want to print them out you have a couple of options, so I will reserve this spot to add some printing solutions here.

The side you are seeing in my cards above would be 'front' side. In order to create a deck of cards, the 'backs' of them should be all the same, like a solid colour or a pattern of some sort. You don't want to 'know' what card you are picking up when they are all facing down.

  • One option is to create your card then create a separate background, and take both to a local printer.
  • Another method I am going to try is to use some scrapbook paper with a pattern, cut down to A4 size which I will then load into my printer to print my cards out. Will let you know how I go! :)
Edited: It worked a treat!! so happy with how they turned out!
STEPS-FOR-PRINTING-800.jpg

  1. I selected a paper that fitted the colour scheme I had on the front of the cards, and like the water colour effect of this mauve one. I used a paper cutter but as you can see the blade was woefully dull so I had to get my Stanley knife cutting tool out to fix it up! lol!
  2. I made some more cards and experimented with different fonts, in future I think I will stick to a no-script font as I think the text would stand out better on them.
  3. Here they are cut out, with the front facing sides and the back sides.
  4. I finished off rounding the corners using a little round corner tool.

*Note: the scrapbook paper was only a little bit thicker than copy paper, so I would guess around 100gsm, a heavier paper would be more suitable, like 210gsm or even higher but of course it depends on what your printer can handle. You could always laminate the cards if you are using thinner paper. When I was looking for the scrapbook paper I came across a thicker paper with a starry sky type pattern on them so I am going to make some more cards and try that out. :)
  • Another option is to use a double sided printer if you have one, it would be perfect!

  • Marilyn @mcurtt also messaged me with another way of printing the cards out and I will set that out below, thanks so much Marilyn! :happyhug:beat

"You create a template that is 3.5" high but instead of 2.5" wide, you make it 5". On the left side, create your design for your ATC, on the right side, place your pattern or whatever you are doing for your backside. Your finished ATC size is 3.5x5. You print it out, then trim, fold and glue together (see provided print layout example). It makes for a bit sturdier card since it is two-ply, and no worries about trying to match things up. On my 8.5 x 11 paper I could get 4 ATCs, front and back. Here is a sample of an ATC I made back in 2017:"

And here is how you would position your front/back ATCs for printing on standard size paper:

@wombat146 Yes, Ona, I would like to be part of the group activity. I too had my email returned to me, but I'm glad you mentioned it again here. Looking forward to it.
