Just wanted to introduce our new featherbabies. In case you don't know, the yellow bird in my avatar pic was our 'normal grey' cockatiel, George's, partner and she passed away a few years ago but he's still got potentially another 14-ish years ahead of him so DH & I have been looking to adopt/rescue some new neighbours for him for a while and last weekend he and my DD went and picked up these guys.

So meet Aria, named because she is very vocal, even though female cockatiels are meant to be quiet and she is clearly the boss and a bit of a diva and she has already taken a shine to George, preferring to sit on his cage than explore the rest of the house.

And this one is Steve, named after the wacky lab monkey in the kid's movie Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs if you've ever seen it.

They were both meant to be about a year old but Steve looks only a few months old and is quite jumpy but also whistles. We've forgotten how much scatterbrained flapping is involved in learning to fly (or remembering how when you've been stuck in a cage for potentially a year; the first night was a disaster but we all survived) and the second pic is where he ended up on a bookshelf in a different room after what we'll just say was an adventure in open-plan living the other night.

TFL, i'm sure they'll be in layouts sooner or later

Awwwwwwwww, they're SO adorable, Justine. I've gotten a new liking to birds since my grandson, Braden, got his bird.

so of course i have to ask what type of bird he has now and i should add that while they were stuck in a cage for potentially a year, it also kept them safe and gradually going free range inside isn't suitable for all families and birds and can easily end in lost beloved pets!

I asked Braden tonight what kind of bird Bernie is and he said a Quaker Parrot. Bernie's a little strange - he doesn't like anybody but Braden. Here are a couple of pictures that he sent me when he first got him.

He's a beautiful Quaker & totally not strange, just selective in his preferred human companion! Lucky Braden!

So, that's not abnormal for them to only like one person? We all tried to bond with Bernie, but after a short time, he wanted nothing to do with anybody else. He's a gorgeous bird and I'd love to be able to hold him. He sleeps in Braden's room and doesn't want Braden out of his sight when he's home.

No it's not unusual for single birds to bond with single humans or single objects at all. If he's the main one to feed him etc, that's why Bernie picked him, especially if Bernie is young

How fun! Welcome Aria and Steve... so so glad George now has company and your family has new members!

Interesting. I know very little about birds, so that must be why - Bernie is young, too. That makes sense. When they first got Bernie, he liked my son-in-law (he's the one who had always wanted a parrot), then he decided he only liked Braden.

(It probably says a lot about me but the only other forum I visit apart from this one is one about birds & DH's family had a range of birds, mostly injured or needing extra care from when he was young as well )

I love the names you picked for your new birds :) we love that movie so I chuckled at the name Steve haha

Oh how fun to have new bird friends for George! I love their names too! :agree

Congrats on the new additions, Justine. Hope they are settling in well. :)
