so last week some time my laptop crashed & burned.
thankfully we were able to dock the hard drive and recover everything that was on it. YAY!!!
we have pinpointed the issue to a failed fan, which then overheated the graphics card and caused it to fail as well. we don't know though whether the fan failed because of the motor or because of power supply. so there is no real guarantee that buying a replacement fan will solve the issue.
so now we are stuck between spending the $100 to buy the replacement fan and graphics card or about $800 pre-tax for a new laptop.
i would LOVE
to just say get a new computer, but the reality is, i can think of 700 reasons (all of them in USD) to consider alternatives.
what would YOU do?
