Ok, so lulu's kidney numbers are in the "normal" side right now, but her liver numbers are high. To top it all, her tumor has grown significantly since we stopped the cancer meds due to the kidney values being through the roof.
We don't see the oncologist until THURSDAY, this tumor is growing in size DAILY in a noticeable way.

Would you start up the cancer med in your own, to try to beat the doc before Thursday or would you wait to see what the doc says? BTW. I have enough meds to start.

Starting tonight will mean that she gets 2 treatments before she sees the doc on thursday.

Hmmm. That's a tough one...is there any way you can talk to someone at the oncologist's office and get their advice? Is their at least a vet on call that you can talk to over the phone?

that's what I was wondering too... there isn't anyone on call to talk to? I can't imagine how drained you are hon (((hugs)))

I would call and ask first, as if they test and the meds give a false reading? This is something I would so not want to do. Our lives are made better by our pets and they are precious.

I called and since my doc is not there this would be the "other" oncologist, he doesn't want to say anything until he "sees her". It's stupid! They did blood on Friday, so they have all the same results they would do if we go today. They should be able to tell me something, before Thursday. Their answer was "if you think she needs to see someone before Thursday you can bring her to the ER". I was ****ed at that answer, because I don't have the money any more for an ER visit. This is THEIR patient, they have a copy of the blood results from Friday.... uffff..... it infuriates me. It's super insensitive!!!!!!!!!!!

Thing is, once she has liver failure, that's pretty much it. At least that's what we were told about our dog's congestive heart failure and medication. Did you find out when Lulu's oncologist will be back in the office? The other doc probably isn't familiar with her case & doesn't want to diagnose without the lead doc's input.

The main thing is, how is Lulu? Is she lethargic? Energetic? Behaving normally other than the discomfort of the tumor? Is she eating, or only nibbling? Is she drinking water? Dogs often withdraw into themselves when they're in severe pain. Can you squeeze the money out from somewhere for a vet visit? What about the chemo medication?

PS. My husband & I went through this two years ago, and it was a difficult, awful decision to make, and we waited (IMO) too long to call the vet in.

Do what's best for Lulu.

So sorry to hear you are going through this. Did they say not to start her meds? Can it harm her? This is my favorite question to ask them - they hate it - WHAT would you do? You never want to go against orders but at the same time no one knows her like you do. Will your vet be in tomorrow? Usually when I called my vet in the morning they could get me in later that day or the following morning.

We got a call late in the afternoon that they got a cancellation for tomorrow. She is going to see this "new" doctor that is taking temporarily all the cases from our doctor.

I'm glad she got in earlier Dalis as I would have waited on the doc too ... good luck sweetie!

Thank you ladies. I am drinking a salad and heading to the doctor soon.

did you post this before or after the update?
