So I'm throwing a lego birthday party for my almost 8 year old son this weekend. It'll be SO much fun! He wants a hot dog bar for dinner ("build a dog") and I'm trying to come up with some fun "buildable" snack/appetizer ideas to have beforehand. So far the only thing I can think of is a cheese/meat/cracker tray where they can "build" their own stack (this is for adults & kids). Any other brilliant ideas?? My other son did think of a fruit stack thing - like build your own fruit kebob, but would people even bother with that when it's easier to just scoop a pile of fruit onto a plate? LOL.

ya the fruit thing is a cute idea, but maybe the fruit scooping would be more of a reality.

not sure if they'd get there in time, but you could always do jello blocks or something like that with these...

um, how about a sundae bar type thing for ice cream?
or you could have sugar cookies, fruit dip frosting, and fruit slices to build your own fruit pizza type thing?
i'll keep thinking and see what else i can come up with.

Yes, doing a lego cake and yes, we have the lego moulds. I'm thinking more food-food though, not sweets ... since there will be LOTS of sweets after dinner (lego brick cake, mini-figure head cake pops, chocolate lego bricks).

well you're already doing stacked dogs. but what about mini subs, like stack the meat & the veggies??

for the fruit idea, you could always just put out wood skewers instead of serving spoons and make everyone stab/stack their fruit. it's a thought.

what about parfaits? like chill some pudding / frozen yogurt and set out fruit and granola and nuts and stuff to layer?

um....

pasta? don't know how you would keep the noodles hot / fresh, but you could do like an olive garden build-your-own pasta dish.

(can you tell i'm just random brainstorming here? lol)

or what about like take a spin off of the lunchables pizzas and get mini pittas, and let them top their own mini pizzas with sauce, prepped meat, veggies, shredded cheese. they could just eat them cold (my kids eat the lunchable pizzas cold) so you don't have to worry about heating them all up.

i'll keep thinking. if any other randomness comes to me, i'll holla.

what about ants on a log?
or fruit kabobs.
multi layered jello.

and then my mind went blank. LOL

have a fun birthday!
i love throwing parties!

hmmmm.... I'm drawing a blank too. What about 'smores? Then again it's a sweet... Some kind of food trifle? The first thing that comes to mind is that episode of friends where Rachel makes that half desert half food trifle... lol!

These are all great ideas!!! My mom ended up coming up with some fun ideas that she's going to do (yay for moms who help you out! LOL) - she's going to do anti-pasto skewers for the adults with cheese, a tortellini, a grape tomato, and a chunk of pepperoni. Yum! I'm doing the cheese & cracker stackers, and then we're also going to do the fruit kebobs - I decided to just skewer them and make it that much easier. Better than having lots of grubby little hands in the fruit which you know is what would end up happening. LOL. I'm so excited for the party - exhausted already and it's 2 days away, but very excited. :D

how fun!! don't forget to take plenty of pics.
I was going to say sandwiches, but you look like you are all set!!
