can i get some kitty support ? :[ So meow mix (aka sunny) has been having some stinky issues for a little bit. .I THOUGHT (incorrectly :p ) that it was digestive, and put him on a strict tuna rice and probiotics diet. Hoorah! He started smelling better! Then 2 days ago he decided to puke excessively and repeatedly... I took him off the tuna, gave him some dry food and waited. No more puking! hoorah! This afternoon however i was sitting on the couch with him and he opened his mouth wide.. and i saw the real reason for his yuckiness :[ Nasty nasty tooth grossness. (really, i almost wretched myself :p ) I just got back from the vet.. She said he's one of those kitties that are just (annoyingly) sensitive to even the teeeniest bit of tarter and they get all (annoyingly) swollen and gross and infections and gag. He'll need many teeth extracted and some mega kitteh teeth cleaning. She gave me an estimate of 300-400 dollars (ow. geez my kid doesnt even cost that much :p ).
The good news is.. She told me that since he's still eating, he is "ok" for now.. but i need to get it done within the next month. She also said the tuna was probably just too much for him thus the pukies :p (phew- seriously when i saw his tooth today i thought he was going to die immediately :p thus rushing to the vet haha i had visions of infections going to his brain and all. dramatic self ty.).

Poor poor sweet kitty. :[ He's like the nicest cat ever too and he's got janked up nasty teeth issues :[ Poor bub.

ouch... poor kitty!!! :(( hope he can recover perfectly with the veterinary treatment

thank you <3 i feel so bad for assuming it was his tummy and not realizing it was his teeth :[ bad pet mommy :[

Oh no. :( Poor baby.

I definitely don't think you should feel bad. I think the natural instinct would be to assume tummy issues.

And ouch on the cost! Furry babies are so expensive sometimes. :(

Hope he gets better soon.

Oh no poor baby. I once had 1200 surgery on my kitty who swallowed a string. Things we do for our pets. We have a spoiled dog now and his vet bills are more than my kids for sure. lol

i feel your pain~ our dogs teeth have to be cleaned every year because of tartar build up. it really puts some hurt on the pocketbook!

My dog has a tartar problem too. Regular teeth cleaning is a must. My cats have been lucky I guess!

Aww man :( poor little guy! and poor wallet! :(

Aw, poor little kitty, he must be feeling awful. We tried brushing our dog's teeth from a pup, and she just wasn't having that. Luckily, she does not get much tartar and has only had one dental treatment in 10 years.

I hope your poor little furbaby gets better soon.

That happened with one of my cats last year - they noticed one tooth that looked bad and he ended up having SEVEN extracted. Poor baby . . . he was still eating dry food like nothing was wrong - they said cats are good at hiding pain. The only thing we really noticed was his "fish breath" . . . we really couldn't tell anything was wrong with him. :-( And he's a fairly young kitty, too (4 years) . . . I'm sure he felt a lot better after all that was done, though.

I'm so sorry to hear about your kitty. Who knew how expensive tartar could be? We had a similar experience with our 20-year-old cat. Makes you wish they liked tooth brushing, huh?

Oh, your poor kitty! You aren't a bad pet mom! You were trying your best to help your baby! I hope the little guy feels better soon. I'm sure you will both be happier once his teeth are cleaned! My mom had to get her dog's teeth cleaned and it was significantly cheaper to go to the Petsmart vet than her regular vet. I don't know if you have a Petsmart near you but my mom saved over $100 using them. It might be worth checking out. Lots of luck!

:( poor meow mix!! one of mine needs it done too...She's going to have to wait a bit longer!

How old is your kitty?

The good news is the dentals are fairly easy and cats recover nicely from teeth extractions. :)

he's about 6.. we adopted him from the shelter and they had said he was about 1.5 at the time. thanks girls.. he's in a good mood and still pigging out today, so hopefully he can hang on a little till i get the appt for his mouth to get fixed. poor bub.

6 is definitely young so I can see why you wouldn't think of that as an issue first. I certainly wouldn't have. I have a 14 year old cat who has never needed a dental. Sure, her teeth could stand a good cleaning but they aren't in very bad shape. We've been very lucky, we have 5 cats, so I'd be in trouble if they all needed dentals at the same time.
