:helpy I think I'm gonna CRY :cry (<---- like that). I used my memory stick from my camera earlier today to download some pics. Ejected it. Put it back in my camera. Took more pics. Tried to download the second round of pics (same method as before, which WORKED then...) and it said I have to format my drive before using it, and would I like to format or cancel? Ugggh!

There IS a cable port on my camera that I could try... IF I could find the right cable. But it seems to have disappeared somewhere between Michigan & Ohio. *sigh* I have some C.U.T.E. pics on there, and I can't get to them!

isigh. I don't know what to do. Commence pouty face... :(
 
I dont know if this is what you need exactly but i had a similar problem with one of my cards just a couple weeks ago... I took the card to my local camera shop, Mike's Camera, and they were able to retrieve my 300 pix. It wasnt expensive and they just put my pictures on a disk. I, THEN, reformatted....
 
SUCCESS!!! Thank you Val! I went to Meijer's photo station, and transferred them to a disk. Worked like a charm!
Memory stick is reformatted... it better not act up again! :)
 
yay!!! so glad it worked!!! makes me think, maybe we should reformat our cards regularly??
 
i was kinda wondering the same... i have no idea what happened to make it act up like that? i'm just super thankful i was able to salvage the photos! i just might have to make a habit of reformating maybe once a month or something. i would hate to lose pictures because of lack of maintenance.
 
oh, yay!! that would make me sick to my stomach!

I have been trying recently to format them regularly for this very reason!
 
I am so glad it worked.

I reformat my cards every time I unload my card. It's the first thing I do when I put it back in my camera.
 
If I right click on the disk drive my card is in ( if I have it in a diskdrive on my computer), it says 'format' and then 'quick format'. I do this everytime I unload my card :)

I format my card everytime too after I upload my photos to the computer. I read somewhere that you should always do this. I always format them in my camera under the menu. I've never take the card out of my camera except when I've replaced/upgraded it. I upload my photos to my computer with a usb attached to the camera so it never has to come out.
 
Phew! i'm so glad that you were able to save your pictures! I never reformat my SD chips... didn't know that was something I was supposed to do! When I used to use SmartMedia cards I had this exact same thing happen a couple of time and I usually would throw the chip away for fear it would do it again to me.
 
carolee, the guy at the photo shop said that reformatting in the camera is the best way to do it. he said if you format in the computer rather than in the camera, it will format to settings specific to your operating system rather than to your camera. so i'd say you're doing it right :)

i never even THOUGHT of formatting every time i dl pics. maybe i'll start doing that.
