Happy National Compliment Day!

When was the last time you gave a compliment? How was it received?

When was the last time you were complimented?

How do you receive compliments? Do you deflect them? Say thank you? Other?

Let’s leave a little more love in the world today by complimenting someone.

I’ll start by complimenting this entire community of creators. Your work always inspires me so thank you for sharing your talents here at The Lilypad!

I frequently give compliments, I do have to admit that I find accepting them difficult.
That’s very good of you to give frequent compliments. I know you’re not the only one who has a hard time accepting them. ;)

I agree with Angela - I'm better with giving them than receiving them, but I do reflect on them later and feel good about them. So there is a net positive when receiving them as it does make me feel good.

Last given - this morning to my flooring installer - they are doing such a great job!
Last received - from my husband

I love this topic!

I’m glad you’ve got a good flooring installer! You never know what you’re going to get these days…

Shout out to your husband for giving you compliments! Woot!

I deflect compliments. My daughter just complimented me on my green layout, and I told my husband "good thinking" about a solution for a car problem .

My compliments on this positive thread!!

I give a lot of compliments to my students every day. They usually smile, and sometimes take it as an opportunity to tell me something. I take compliments with a smile and a thank you.

I think I've come to see compliments, both giving and receiving, as an opportunity to connect and talk. I love when they lead to conversations with strangers.

I hand out lots during the day to students mostly and my own kids.
I'm terrible at recieving them. I say thank you and then totally deflect.

Why thank you! ;)

My husband deflects compliments too.

I’ve never thought about the smile part of receiving a compliment; I hope I smile when someone compliments me. I’m going to pay more attention now.

Compliments are a great opportunity to connect and converse.

Hey at least you say thank you before you deflect lol

Good job complimenting your students (you and Michele!).

Happy National Compliment Day!

When was the last time you gave a compliment? How was it received? Yesterday, with some grace and some deflection.

When was the last time you were complimented? Yesterday, but my hubby is very good at compliments. So it's a frequent thing for me to thank him and downplay or deflect. Lets call it a little verbal dance we do.

“A little verbal dance we do” - I love that. ;)

Yesterday I was telling a friend how much I admired her nail art. I also complimented my hubs b/c he styled his hair a little differently and so did a few of our friends so that must have perked him up b/c today he did it again.

When was the last time you were complimented?
Yesterday, one of my friends said my hair always looks so nice which I laughed at and told her I hate my hair b/c it is so fine and never think it looks good.

How do you receive compliments? Do you deflect them? Say thank you? Other?
I mostly say thank you but sometimes, like yesterday, I make a joke about it.

Let’s leave a little more love in the world today by complimenting someone.
That is a wonderful thing to aspire to today and every day.

I had a lot of opportunities today to both give and receive compliments, and in general feel like the whole day was magical, my dd is in the middle of exams and particularly stressed, and during this very stressful time she chose to invite her bf's younger sister and a friend from the Uni with her teenage dd, and dd's friend to come over for a couple of hours of doing something creative together like painting or drawing. I have found something to compliment about each art work, including BF's drawing of my daughter, that was heavily criticized by her (that compliment of mine might have been backhanded, to be completely honest with you. I told him that I can see parts of her in the drawing, and we now have a preview of what she might look like in 60 years time, but that was due to all the lines that he tried and then rejected and tried to erase half successfully). Now I have written it down, I think I should have kept it quiet about this particular one... I am slightly ashamed of myself, but I promise you it was as sincere as all the other ones I gave, and the other ones were merited, they were beautiful works of heart and art. I also was unexpectedly "volunteered" into making dinner for 8, with a couple of vegetarians to boot, and made two versions of "bolognese" sauce, one with meat, the other without to make spaghetti bolognese and moussaka, and was complimented on whipping two meals up at short notice, also the fact that the bunch of people who didn't all know each other to start with had such a good time, that a couple of hours turned into 8-9, and they didn't want to leave. That was the biggest compliment to our home, I believe.

And yes, compliments on this lovely "let us bring more joy to the world" thread. I find it inspiring and very positive!

I admire nail art too! My daughter has some nail art skills which is fun.

DH loves to joke off compliments. He jokes off everything really.

I’m glad you were able to recognize the many opportunities to give and receive compliments.

Great job cooking two separate meals for eight on the fly! I would’ve politely declined lol

i think i am good at giving compliments

but receiving no, usually not thank you..., , i "say uh-hu. but"

as the resident 'chef' here, i don't really get compliments verbally but if they go back for seconds, it feels like it's an unspoken compliment

i feel like i leave compliments pretty regularly in the gallery, hopefully they're well received and I always appreciate them on my own pages and posts (i click 'like' to acknowledge and say thanks for the comment - hopefully that is what people take from my 'likes')

thanks for all you do here Monica!

I love that there's a Compliment Day! What fun. I think I'm really good at giving compliments, but I am the worst at accepting them. My husband is always getting after me for how bad I am about accepting a compliment. He teases that I must never have gotten any compliments as a kid. Lol.
