PSA for all my fellow Mozy users. I had an EHD fail on me last night and I was 2 days shy of the Mozy limit to get everything restored (the EHD must have gone out at my last b/u and I just didn't notice :( ( ). 300GB gone...ugh...I am just devestated. Hopefully I can get some of the stuff restored, but my husband (he's in IT) said it looks pretty much fried. I am so sad :(

So..if you have Mozy and you use it for EHD's, just double check your online account once a month. They Mozy people were super nice, but sadly there wasn't much they could do. :td

Most of all of you probably do this (I am just an airhead) but I thought I would mention it just in case. This is a horrible feeling :( I have my pictures on DVD's so thankfully those are safe as well as alot of my recent scrap stuff but still :(

Oh no Kelly! That is awful. :( I hope you can recover the data somehow. Mozy has saved me in the past but I have tried to keep a local backup here at home, too.

ive had this happen 3 times this year already lol but unlike you i lost all my kids pictures from when they were babies
be happy you didnt lose your pictures, that sucks worse than losing scraps
you can replace scraps but you cant replace memories
stores are usually cool about letting you get back your stuff but for a price sometimes LOL thisis why i back up to 3 EHD's now LOL

if you uploaded to Mozy shouldnt your stuff still be there Kelly?
or did they lose it?

Most only keeps files for 30 days if you delete them. I had my ehd hooked up during my last back up but it must have failed at some point, because they were gone. If I had noticed just a little sooner I might have been able to recover everything. I lost all my scrap pages too...all of them :( I have the web versions but I can't print those.

oh so cause your ehd died you cant access them now cause they arent there anymore:(

Oh my gosh.... honey I'm SO sorry!!
This was the EXACT thing that happened to me. (and with Mozy) ACK!! I know how you feel.

(((HUGS)))

This is horrible! I can't imagine. I just started Mozy less than a week ago and I'm still skeptical to even rely on it as a backup. My hubby signed us up, but I'm not convinced it's actually ever going to help me. I frequently unplug my EHD and turn off my computer. Now I can't turn off my computer or unplug my EHD until the initial backup is complete. ...which I don't actually think is ever going to finish. It's backed up 867 files over about 5 days and I have 296005 files left. yeah. SLOW! It has slowed down my internet too.

So I've heard that you should should turn off automatic backups so that it doesn't think you've deleted everything if you forget to leave your EHD plugged in. But I download a lot of stuff and I'm not sure how long it's going to take to do a backup or how often I should do them either. Once a week? Once a month? Seems easier to just have another EHD here at home that I back up to.

Kelly, i can't even covey how sorry i am.....this kinda thing scares the bajeebies outta me!

i might check this out, i have one TB EHD which has all my jen wilsons on it that i like need but it wont work LOL
i only managed to save half on another ehd

I'm so sorry you lost so much data. :( My brother opened a data recover business and he does great work...for next to nothing compared to other places. http://www.harddriveheroes.net/

Good luck to you and your hubby!

Thanks everyone! I appreciate the sympathy :) I'm going to look into that Rachel! Thank you! I went to 2 different places today and the cheapest estimate I got was $1200! That's alot of money and it's not guaranteed that they are going to get anything back!

Oh, no, Kelly! I'm so sorry to hear that! I hope you're able to find an affordable solution!

I had loads of problems with getting Mozy to run for me initially, but it's been chugging along smoothly now for the last year-ish. I have not backed up my EHD with it yet though. I'm not sure quite how I'm going to handle that. I currently use it more as an archive and only turn it on a couple of times a month.

Now I can't turn off my computer or unplug my EHD until the initial backup is complete. ...which I don't actually think is ever going to finish.

You actually can shut down your computer normally, and the backup will start up again whenever you boot back up. It will show starting at 0% again, but that's only a percentage of the remaining files, not the whole backup. Shutting down/rebooting might also help your speed issues.
