Mother's Day plans?

So what do you have planned for Mother's day?

Do you prefer to go out and celebrate or just get some time to do whatever you want?

Do you celebrate with your Mother's, mother-in-law's, Grandmothers over the weekend too or just with your with your own kids?

What is on your gift wish list?

We have a crazy busy weekend. Kenzie's birthday usually falls around Mother's day weekend. She has an 8 am soccer makeup game Sat. (that totally threw a wrench in me having her party Friday night) so we have the game, take her friends to the movies Sat. afternoon, then party and sleepover Sat. night. I hope that the few kids spending the night will go home early on Sunday so that I can get time to enjoy mother's day. Hopefully go to lunch and just relax some. I will be seeing my Mom that day and we will celebrate with David's Mom the following weekend when we get together with them for Kenzie's birthday. I am already tired just thinking about it all. lol

I am going kindle book shopping for my gifts. lol. There are quite a few new books coming out that I want to buy so David just said to buy what I want.

We don't live by family any more so I usually just celebrate with my kids at home. We don't really do anything special. We have church that day so with my husband being the pastor it's already a very busy day.

I always look forward to the gifts my kids make at school and church. They are always so excited about them and they are so special. I have however dropped a hint to the hubby about the new Vera Bradley camera bag that came out. With the new baby in the house though, I think I would just be happy to get a full night sleep LOL. That would be the best present ever.

I want down time, but we'll be going to my MILs house instead, lol. I will enjoy it, but what I really like is to read. :)

No family close by here either, so just the four of us. We went out to eat on Mother's Day once. Never again. The restaurants around here get insanely crowded that day. So probably DH will grill, and we'll just do something low-key like play some games or something.

I don't really have a wish list. Usually my gifts are just some handmade cards, and maybe something small like a special dessert or coupons for extra chores from the kids. We keep it simple. :)

a day with my kids and my mother and it's exactly what i need! i don't have a wish list, i like surprises! like kim, we keep it simple :)

Can I confess?

I kind of dislike Mother's Day....I feel bad saying that...I love that I am a mom and I love my mom. I think that my husband has just always been so busy and doesn't usually do anything and my boys are still little and I just always end up feeling bad. Then, that leads me down a slippery slope of feeling like a loser child because I probably never adequately celebrated my own mom (who is incredible, btw) and I wonder if this is how she always felt.

So, this week, I am trying to totally erase expectations and just enjoy/appreciate the fact that I have an amazing mom and that I am a mom.

I always SAY I'm going to spend Mother's Day planting my annuals.

But instead I end up doing a bunch of stupid every day crap and just ending up annoyed. So this year, I'm just ignoring it. :rofl

In the morning I coach, it's their last run before the half marathon the following weekend. Then the kids have piano recital at 2pm.

I'll try to ride my bike in there somewhere, maybe. That's about it.

The day will be spent running here to there unfortunately. From church to my mother-in-law's house, to my Mom's house, and crashing on the couch at 8:30pm. I will have to probably make two dishes, and get my kids all ready and looking good. My husband and I are not "gifty" people, so I am certain I won't get anything (except for what my girls made at school - which is perfect and more than enough!) It will be a good day though, and I am happy to be celebrating with some AMAZING Mom's in my family. So setting all selfishness beside I will enjoy the day, and be thankful that my mom and mother-in-law are in my life yet, and thankful that I am a mom to three amazing beautiful, great girls, who I hope spend Mother's Day with me and set selfishness aside when they get older! There ya have it!

P.S. - if I could have one thing though as a gift it would be an iphone - I am finally up for new phone on contract, but need to scrounge up the money to get it. So I wait!

Hubs knows I expect him to do something 'from' Miss Monkey for Mothers' Day. He will likely get me a card and/or flowers. As long as he does something and it appears thoughtful, I don't really care what it is, kwim?

My hope is that the local U-pick strawberry farm will open for the season this weekend so we can go do that as my 'present.' Strawberries are my and DD's favorite fruit and she's never gotten to do that before, so I think it would be superfun. Of course, I think the pictures I would get would be fun to scrap, too! :giggle

I will call my mom to say hello, and I'm sure I will see my MIL the day of or before. I invited her to come with us, but she's been babysitting Monkey all week, so maybe she will want a break instead! :giggle

For us, Mother's Day really has been celebrating my mom, and not me as a mother. Sad to say, but true...

And I get more Happy Mother's Day to our Daughter cards from my parents than Happy Mother's Day cards from my kids/dh.

On the other hand, I make darn sure dh gets Happy Father's Day cards from the kids, preferable something hand-drawn to capture what their heart holds right now.

But it doesn't bother me one way or another. I know I'm loved and appreciated.:flirty

Spending the day Saturday with my mom, then coming home. I'll get to sleep in on Sunday, my son is studying for AP tests so I'll be able to scrap all day if I want to. NO GOING OUT for dinner, WAY too crowded around here. I'll either pick up something easy to cook or send my son out for take-out.

As for a present, I handed him a piece of a Bed Bath and Beyond flyer and a 20% off coupon and said THIS is what I want! I expect my daughter will text me at midnight so she'll be the first to say it to me! I always get the nicest Mother's Day cards from my parents (like Heather does!)

We'll hang out with my mom for a bit I think. I'm really hoping that Dusty and the kids make dinner. I usually don't get to see my stepdaughter on Mother's Day but we have joint custody now so we pick her up at 6 on Sunday! YAY!!! All 3 of our kids here on Mother's Day will be amazing!

well I know Lina made ma little gift at daycare and since I work there too, I know what it is, but don't know what it looks like and that is most important to me :D I did told my guy I wnted breakfast in bed, but not sure I'm getting that! LOL...everything else is up to him.

We always see my mom and I want to make her something sweet & pretty with Lina too. As for my MIL...they don't really do anything with mothersday...but I do try to bring her flowers or something else

I'm working...and I'm working late, so I won't be home most of the day. My dh is in a neck brace and can't do much...two of my boys will be gone, one will be home making messes, the other doesn't live here but will be home to visit that week.

My mom has alzheimers and is in a nursing home. My mil passed away 20 years ago.

BUT...now that I think about it, one of my aunts is so special to me. I'm going to go pick her up a card today while I'm out and at least mail that off to her to let her know how special she is!!!

As for me...my family really doesn't do anything for me. It's ok. If they wanted to do something, they could get me a ticket to go somewhere...anywhere! LOL!! I need a vacay!!

I also have often gotten the shaft on Mother's day. Although last year DH did great. This year, I'm taking the reigns and planning my day (he doesn't know this yet HAHAHAHA). I want to go see The Avengers as a family, then come back here and just relax. I do want to spend the day with my mom and MIL as well but if we do that we'll just end up running around all day and that just isn't fun for any of us. I have some salmon in the fridge - I might put that in a marinade and have some sides ready to go so all DH has to do is throw it on the grill. That sounds like a wonderful day.
