When I did the MOC last year for the first time I was brand new to TLP. I bought one OLB kit and had a couple Just Jaimee, Mommyish and Sahlin Studio kits. I had SO MUCH FUN with the MOC that I pretty much consider TLP my scrapping home now and my stash has grown. A LOT!!

I now have 91 kits from TLP designers!!

I am trying to organize my stash. Right now I just have a folder for each designer and the kits I have for each. But I am looking at digging deeper.

If you were going to catagorize your stash what catagories would you include??

TIA. :)

I organize by designer. BYOCs, and collabs. The amazing designers are really good at labeling their beautiful things, so I just use search for things I need...alpha, staples, hearts, paint etc.

I use Panstoria Artisan so I can "tag" things but I can't search till I tag. :)

What a stash! I'm excited too! My first on this side of the fence!

Though... I am not a tagger organizer. I just sort by designer/kit... and scroll through the previews. I occasionally will search for a specific elements or word. Hmmm.... maybe just tag previews with what occasions or what the kit makes you think of first... like rainbow, birthday, fun, bright... lol. Can you see why I don't tag?! :giggle

I love tagging because it helps me find stuff much quicker. I organize by designer and then tag previews with colors, topic (if there is one I consider worth tagging), and maybe material, like mixed media, stamps etc.
I only tag individual items when they are something I might explicitly look for, e.g. wood, gold, glitter etc.

I'm watching this thread to see what you all recommend b/c I want to start tagging when I load acdsee. I like the idea of tagging previews with a holiday/occasion. I want to tag all my xmas kits. I also want to tag some of the basics I use a lot i.e. thread, staples, washi, etc.

:sensethis is me.... to myself.... trying to convince myself.... to get .. more .. organized! I put kits in the designers folders and that is as far as I get.

Good Luck!:peekin

So far I have: Paint, Staples, Scatters, Stitches, String, Word Papers, Fave Word Art...

I just throw all my TLP products in one folder. Usually it's alphabetized by file name so everything by each designer is together and I can scroll to find someone's kits easily if that's what I'm looking for. When I want something specific like a scatter or a tag, the search engine in Finder works really well, and thankfully most designers give good filenames to make this work.

I only tag occasionally, upon downloading something new, when it's an item or kit I want to make sure comes up in a search for a particular theme and the designer didn't name it such. For example, I always tag music-themed elements that don't have music in their filename because they're something I love and use a lot. It's really easy in Finder (and probably the Windows file system too). Just right click on the item (element or kit folder) and choose "Get Info." At the top of the Info box is a place to type tags.

And I will share my best advice for organization, what helps me find stuff when I'm scrapping: Make the folders for each kit and alpha the kit preview instead of the default blue folder. I wrote about how to do this on my blog a long time ago. Changing Folder Icons

Happy MOC :D

I use the Lazy Person's system. I use two monitors. I scrap on the large monitor and have my kit folders available to look at on the smaller monitor. I do name folders with designer's name first, then kit name.

My software has tagging available, but it would take me weeks to go through and tag all my kits.

I used to tag everything like: flowers, fasteners, frames, stitches, scatters, ink splashes, and I also tagged everything by color.

I normally (OK always) scrap by a kit (very rarely do I use multiple kits for 1 layout) so I don't worry about tagging plus with my stash (more like a hoard) it would take me forever to tag. I spent almost a month just organizing kits (I switched to storing by "topic" of the kit such as Christmas all together by store. So I have a folder for Lilypad that has "topic" folders and then inside that folder is a kit folder that fits that theme. it really helps me find a kit to use for a photo. I also typically scrap by "theme" of the kit.

This is me... I always have good intentions of tagging stuff, but then never get around to it.

me too!!! love love two monitors

I would love two monitors, so I could look for things on one screen and scrap on the other. Having two monitors would help my old eyes too, so I could have everything nice and BIG... hehe!

There are so many threads over the past year of organization! I may try to link them tomorrow or later...

But... I feel like in the year and a half I've been here, I've managed 91 kits... from each designer... :hehe :stash
Okay, that's exaggeration. I do have tons though.
EVERY. SINGLE. ONE. Has "just previews" on the previews so I can search for that tag. There's "colortagme" and "themetagme" on one's I haven't yet tagged for color or theme. Many have the type of preview as well (paper, elements, word art, alpha, journaling cards, etc). Almost every single BYOC purchase has been tagged with "BYOC" and month and year (the only ones I'm missing are ones I've purchased through later SOSN sales or something I didn't realize was a prior BYOC pack. All M3 collections and add ons are tagged with M3, month and year; same with Storyteller and MPM.

Earlier this year I made TONS of progress on this. Took forever.
To be honest, I don't use that info as much as I thought I would, but the times I do use it, I'm so glad I did. Knowing how YOU scrap, and how YOU search for things should help you figure out which method/tags would work for you. Also, as others have said, TLP designers are pretty standard across the board labeling their products/elements. If I don't have stitches tagged but I need to find one, I can search "stitch" in my windows explorer (or PSE Organizer) and find a multitude of "stitch", "stiches", "stitching", or something "stitched". :giggle

worst case scenario, I go to the TLP store, hunt down some stitches, and wait to find one that says "you've already purchased this on this account" :giggle

Also... all my templates are tagged with photo spots. I've been lazy recently with this, and my "untagged" templates folder is getting out of hand. I'll be fixing that soon!
Mostly, my process is "pick photos, find template with those photo match ups, then find kit to match". I don't even bother changing the templates lately... just use as is. Because I can scrap more if I stop thinking about page design.
I know that's personal preference though. :)

I keep kits separate from random elements and papers that I buy and then I just sort by designer name and look at the folder preview. I'm taking notes for better options though!

I have about 100 tags. My biggest tip if you decide to do it, is to pick either all singular names or all plural names. In other words, use flower, star, heart - or - flowers, stars, hearts. I also only tag unique content now, like keys, camping, time (clocks), etc. I also tag key words in word art such as believe, dream. love, today, remember - often times designers just name them word-art1, wa2, etc. so I need some why to find them.

I only tag paper if it is something I know I might look for. For ex: camping, wood, heart, snow, metal, glitter (although I now have lots of glitter paper), arrow, etc.
