Mixing things up this year... background papers

Last year I used the same neutral background on every page. This year I'm thinking about mixing things up a bit. If you used different background papers, what were some of your favorite? And what are some "must have" packs to get started? I already have the Page Kraft set by One Little Bird, but I won't be using it in my PL album (I've used it for two years on every page in another pocket style book I do, so I want the PL book to be different). Thanks!

I loved using the Splendid Fiins monthly kits. The papers are bright and colorful, yet clean and simple. She doesn't always have solid papers, but she has a ton of patterns and most are very subtle patterns - small dots, diagonal lines, small stripes - I felt they gave just a hint of texture/interest to my backgrounds & quite often she does a graph type paper(s).

i LOOOVE light, neutral backgrounds with a bit of texture...

here's one of my all-time fave white paper packs:

love this for a neutral background with a bit of pattern:

love the white wood grain in this pack:

and of course i love kraft papers for bg's... but you said you wanted to stay away from kraft.

Thanks so much for the suggestions Rebecca... I ended up buying the When Skies Are Grey bundle!

Thanks for the suggestions Kerri Anne! I'll check those out as well!

Looking forward to seeing what you decide on Tracie - your pages are always so inspiring!
Rebecca - love those Plain Jane papers - sigh.... on my list :)

I love these, I've got to force myself not to use them all the time at the moment, they are SO beautiful:

And I used the light one for summery beach pictures and the violet stuff for spring and all of it for party pictures, so I find them pretty versatile.

For a more neutral background I like

And I take all kinds of woodsy or cardboard papers from the kits I'm using. I vary the background every week, and personally, I never use white backgrounds... my week-in-review cards are plain white, so I'd need a contrast anyway ;)...

Oh my! I love the very krafty set! Looks like this is going to be a Splendid Fiins year with my PL pages!!

you know what's wild, is sometimes i have used some of Allison's Big and Bold type papers and they actually can work really well, too!

Baby steps Amy! :-) Remember you're talking to the girl who used the same pale tan background on every single page last year... lol! I did check them out... they look cool! I'll work my way up to those :-)

i totally agree amy!! i've used her big & bold papers for my pl bakgrounds a few times, and love the way it has turned out!!

oh my gosh!! i use Counting the Days paper all the time!! and i love that set of white papers by PRD too!! :beat

Loving all of the suggestions! I may have to pick up the New Perspective set next!

Thinking about using a background other than kraft gives me the heebies jeebies. :D I'm going to use one from P's PageKraft set. I was looking for one that was right in the middle - not too dark and with a bit of a gray tone. I found the one I want and I made sure to write it down so I wouldn't have to search!

Someday scrapping anything with colored/patterned background won't send me into an anxiety spiral.

you guys are even bolder than me...i use solid white...maybe I should use a textured white this year! decisions, decisions!

turns out, it looks like my layouts might not end up requiring a background, if i stick to this format i did for week 1... that would make my decision pretty simple i guess!
