Migraines?

Oh goodness, I could write a book on this subject! I've suffered for years, but the good news as Lynn pointed out is that they seem to decrease in frequency and intensity as you age. My triggers were red wine, humidity, MSG, allergies, stress and fluctuations in hormone levels. I too used Imitrex and found it most helpful if caught really early. The other thing that I've always done is used one of those sinus packs that you heat up in the microwave for 45 sec. The down side is running to the microwave every time it cooled down. I've often wished for a microwave in the bedroom, lol! I don't know if it's the dark, the heat, the fact that it helps me regulate my breathing or what, but it helps me break it up. It might take hours and multiple trips to the microwave, but it does seem to help. The other thing that seems to help is loading up on the caffeine. I swear by Excedrin (no other will do) and vats of coffee and Mountain Dew!

Oh, and I just thought of another trigger, changes in barometric pressure!

Wow, it's amazing to read how many of you struggle with this as well. Thanks for sharing all of your suggestions. There a few things I will definitely try.

@crystalbella77 - That article was marvelous and spot on for me. I've always called it the migraine hangover but it's a postdrome. Mine was terrible yesterday...I had a hard time "finding my words" all day long and was very "woozy" which is typical for me post-migraine. In a weird way, it's comforting to read that it's a real thing. LOL Thanks for posting that link.

I am glad you are feeling better!
I have never had one but my Mom and my husband both get them.
My husbands are food triggered - soft cheeses. It took us years to figure that out. He can mostly avoid it but sometimes they sneak it in foods.

Migraine. Yes. LOL. I hear you re: the functionality and eye gouging desires :giggle . Oh, and no more than 4 Ibuprofen at at time, lady! 800mg is the max dose every 6 hours. Not worth losing a kidney over. Please and thank you, friend. (if you are needing more, talk to your doc... for realz)

Yes, Ma'am (said with a salute). I've only had to do the 6-7 Advil twice now, and I do realize it's finally something I need to see someone for. Which means I have to find a doctor. Which I hate having to do.

I should also mention that I do get occullar migraines (again, diagnosed only by Dr. Julie via the internet, but they are so classic and exactly what's described, I know that's what they are). No pain, but an annoying wavy line in my right eye that makes it next to impossible to see anything clearly. I've gotten those roughly twice a year for the last 5 years or so, and most have hit me while I'm at work. So chug caffeinated pop and wait for it to pass. Those are pretty wild!

Hope you're feeling better today Laura!

Like many of you mine were mostly hormone related. They stopped completely when I hit menopause - yay!! I used to take Naproxen (but had to have a glass of milk with it - it reaks havoc on your stomach), lie in a dark room with a cold cloth on my forehead. I took up yoga too, which really helped. Apart from hormones other triggers were red wine, chocolate, cheese, champagne, and always after a major stressful event.

I got migraines a ton when I was younger....at least one a month if not more. They only thing that would make it go away was throwing up. I would get super nausea from mine. Eventually I would through up and sort of pass out/sleep for hours. Like 12 or more. I usually woke up with a mild ache at that time and had like you said a "hangover". Since entering my 20's I haven't had them nearly as often. I think it may be because I finally was diagnosed with allergies and started taking something for them. I still get a migraine every other month or so and there isn't much I can do for them. I typically take some tylenol (which doesn't help AT ALL, but it is the only medicine I can take), lay down in a dark room, and sleep. Thank goodness I don't throw up from them anymore but I still have to get massive amounts of sleep to get them to go down to a dull ache.

Hope you are feeling better and can figure something out to relieve yours!

Yep! Everyone in my family gets them. I woke up with one this morning and went back to bed. Luckily, Imetrex usually helps me.
