helo my dears.... if you have "seen" me in the gallery, you know I have been unable to read journalings (unless the font is clear enough after zooming in 3 times) because I have had this migraine for now over a week..... it goes a bit less piercing when I am eating..... but of course I can't be eating all the time....
any of you have found something that at least soothes a bit so I can actually THINK?

Before I started looking in the gallery for commenting, I grabbed a box of Kellogs Special K (which the diabetes dietitian said is better than corn flakes) and took out little bits of flakes and spread them out in the desk, grabbing like 3 flakes at the time whilst I was writing so I was in less pain (maybe to do with moving the jaw? ) but I can't really stand more cereal now LOL
Don;t want to go sleep now because, even if I take a pill, I will be up in the middle of the night/early morning, as it is now 18:24....
I am on very very heavy pain killers already, I take 400mg of Tramadol every day, so what am looking for is any kind of non pharmaceutical tips , if anyone has any :)
thanks!!!!!!

ugh! How awful!! I am not a migrane expert, hot or cool compress? Adjust the lighting on your computer, maybe!! I'm so sorry! <3

Kim thanks , yes, I think I m gonna go stick some cloth in the freezer and try that...

Gill, no, I don't because isn;t something I get periodically, and I already am in so many tablets, I am very very reluctant to take more, I have the pain management clinic this week, so we ll see , maybe this will change when they upgrade me....
thanks girls...
I m of to cool some cloth LOL

@MrsPeel ... I get migraines frequently ... thankfully they do not last for days ... so sorry to hear you've been dealing with this for SO long! YUCK!

I use Young Living Peppermint Essential Oils for my headaches. A few dabs on each temple - some rubbed on my forehead and back of my neck - usually does the trick. Sometimes, if they are bad, I use the oils and Excedrin Migraine tabs with it.

I'm sending you a PM :)

I had one too this week from Tuesday to Yesterday.. some cold compresses help but laying down with eyes closed helps me some.. gosh I hope yours dissipates quickly.. I was unable to focus and in pain most of this week. Hugs for you to feel better. XO

Goodness Cyn, sorry to hear. Christa and I were having a conversation about this a few days ago.

I've had them as long as I can remember, but more so the last 12 months or so - usually they last just a day, but recently for 2-3 days. I can't focus to even look at a monitor, TV, read and brain goes completely scatty - even thinking to speak is a problem. As soon as I feel one coming on, I usually take Solpadeine Max, or something soluble at least... drink gallons of water and take Vitamin B/B6 tablets daily. Stress is my trigger, but not alot I can do about that! Sleep is the best cure, but it's not always convenient KWIM. Hope you can find a cure, I can't image living with one for a week <3

Stress is my trigger
I have found that has been happening to me more and more often as well. A couple of weeks ago I decided to go to a craft fair alone - I was ready for some "me" time - traffic was horrendous and lately, my anxiety shoots through the roof with traffic (that just started about 6 months ago) ... I was so tense and nearly in tears when I reached the craft fair. All of a sudden the aura came and all I could do was go into the restroom and apply the peppermint oil - I didn't enjoy the craft show at all ... knowing I had to drive back in the traffic ... crazy what our bodies do to us! Or rather, what we cause our bodies to do!

Oh yes Jill, the dreadful 'aura' ... something we can kind of handle at home, but if you're out and on your own and have to drive - can be frightening and make matters worse! Hope you were OK.

I am lucky because I don't get bad headache migraines, but weirdly I do get the aura -- what my optomotrist diagnosed as "ocular migraines." It is SO annoying, though, as I'm a lawyer and there really isn't much lawyering you can do when you have one of those things because you can't SEE anything!

Anyhow, my friend also gets deep tissue massages of shoulders and neck for migraines.

Maybe try biofeedback? You relax your body (one section at a time, tensing and relaxing) and then try to let your body sink into the bed. Try to slow your breathing, slow your heart rate and increase your body temp. Sort of like meditating. I learned that at a headache clinic when I had constant migraines.

One thing that always works for me is s-e-x (probably waaaaayyy too much info, but it is in the interest of health and helping). LOL. Not that it may be an option, but it really always helped my migraines.

Once in awhile, I get a weird migraine and will crave parmesan cheese and Mt. Dew. Don't ask me why. But if I eat several spoons of parm and drink some Dew, it will go away. It is totally counter to what doctors will tell you. Largely they believe that caffeine causes migraines and parm can too, but for me, it is the opposite. :)

So I guess I'm really not too much help unless the biofeedback works.

So sorry to hear, Cynthia! I've been getting migraines for the last 17 years, so I definitely know your pain! Usually, I get one about once a week, at minimum, but they can last anywhere from a day to 5 days for me. After about 5 days, I'm pretty much useless and can't do anything but lie in a dark, silent room...which is really hard with a 3 yr old running around! Ha!

Over the years, I have found several different things seem to factor into my migraines. Number one being stress, but that one is a bit hard to control. I also wear contacts, so I will notice an increase in migraines and their strength when I need an eye exam. Also, I have very long (usually past my butt), thick hair, which apparently pulls on my head, so I have discovered that the migraines will also increase in number and strength when I need to cut my hair and get it thinned. I pretty much live on caffeine, whether it is coffee or pop and I have for a very long time. Despite this, I did try for several years to cut out caffeine completely, since the doctors always say migraines are caffeine related. To be honest, the lack of caffeine had zero effect on my migraines and did not reduce them or the strength of them at all.

As for solutions to try to get you through this time, I definitely recommend Execdrin Migraine. I always carry a bottle of it everywhere I go, because my migraines can hit out of nowhere. If I take the Execdrin quickly enough it will stop it completely, otherwise, I will quickly get to the point that I cannot see or focus on anything. Another option for me is the cold compress. I use an ice pack on the back of my head, and then a cold, wet cloth over my eyes, preferably in a dark room. Also, I have some lavender herbal packs that I tuck into my pillow that seem to help, and I have another pack (from the same large kit) that I can heat in the microwave for 30 seconds to put over my eyes as well, when the cold isn't helping. I have also bought some menthol bath oil and bath salts from Walmart (I think its called Aches and Pain, and they also have one for Stress Relief) that can help to take the edge off of the migraine for me.

I hope you find some solutions that you help you, and I hope you feel better soon! Migraines are definitely no fun :(

just a very fast update: I ll come tomorrow to read and answer BUT...
I spent the night sick in the bathroom, luckily Sarita woke up and helped me...and she called the emergency doctors and they sent the district nurse.
I had an injection to stop the sickness, but I didn't go sleep until 10am this morning. I felt better after but needed some sleep, then I came to the speed scrap and then the nurse came again, to see if I stil had temperature and took my blood pressure, goit me an appointment for another clinic tomorrow and I already had one- pain management to change all my meds, , so I ll be all morning away in hospital, but will be back with news tomorrow afternoon (UK time which will be your morning!!) I'm feeling much , much better now, thanks so much!!!!

@MrsPeel hope pain mgmt consult helps. I walk around in dark sunglasses a lot and have monitor on very low brightness mostly but sleep and quiet music is my bestest advice

looking forward to hearing from you today to see if you are ok.. .big hugs @MrsPeel Cynthia :)

Oh I feel for you sufferers. I've never had a migraine though I too occasionally get the ocular kind. I just wait it out for the 10-15 minutes it takes to go through the cycle. I only worry that I'll get one while driving but otherwise it's not a big deal.

As Kimberlee said, i have heard that an orgasm is a cure, not necessarily a preventative. If I read it and she said it, it must be true! :carryon

Hoping your feeling better Cynthia.

I got hormonal migraines for many years but thankfully I'm past that now! :agree
Most of the tricks and treatments I used to use have been mentioned but one more that really helped prevent them was a Magnesium supplement.
