My mom had a stroke yesterday but we didn't know what it was until hours later.
Yesterday was a very, very long day for our family. It started at 4pm - she couldn't walk, she struggled to stand up, her speech was slurred, she looked disoriented. I was worried that it could be her depression because she had been hospitalized a few times due to that before. My family and I tried to massage her arms & legs, tried to give her food etc but they didn't work, and I was worried sick, so I dialled 999. An ambulance came in 10 mins and my mom was brought to the hospital immediately.
The Medical Officer that came told us that he suspected that it was stroke, but I didn't believe it because her health test results had always came out well. I was in denial. I was also worried of losing my mom.
After waiting for an hour at the Emergency department, I was allowed to see my mom. The doc confirmed that it was a stroke, and they worried if the veins in her brain ruptured, so they had to perform CT scan. Thank God that it was only blood clotting, which is a less serious stroke. She was then taken to the ward upstairs, and me and my sisters stayed with her at the hospital to take care of her.
She's now home after being hospitalized for a day. Her speech is still slurred and she still seems a little disoriented, but she's definitely better than yesterday.
One big lesson that I learned yesterday is that my parents had raised us well. Every sibling that stays within the state came immediately after receiving the news. My elder sister that stayed far from us even booked a flight immediately and is now here at our house in Cyberjaya.
I'm glad that my family stays together in tough times and in happier times.
