I purchased a pretty expensive foam mattress five years ago or so - it was a new brand and probably should have known better - because it did not hold up very well. I believe I spent $2000+ for it. :cry
About a month ago, decided I HAD to get something different, but we live in a small town and without traveling 60+ miles there was no where to get one - and - after reading reviews all over the internet about the ga-zillion different kinds of mattresses - I was totally confused.
I ended up purchasing one from Amazon - without ever having touched it! Can you imagine? I was very skeptical - but the one I purchased had a lot of 5 star reviews ... I was concerned how I'd ever send it back if I didn't like it!! LOL!
I paid $350 for this mattress and it's far better than the $2000+ one I purchased years ago! I figure even if it only lasts a few years it's better than paying a lot of money like I did previously. I love this one so much in fact I actually look forward to going to sleep in it!
Have you ever purchased anything like that without trying it out first?

please tell me more about your mattress!
we actually bought 2 expensive mattresses last year
first one was horrible, hot and squishy
the store has a NO return..which we didn't know or didn't realize
we gave it to dear friend with MS and he loves it..so that was good
then we got another one, and within 3 months we have a HUMP in the middle
and yes I turn it or such, it can't be flipped.
we are looking at Sam's right now..but Amazon and $300 sound good to my pocket book!

Yes, I just want to know more about your mattress from Amazon. When we move next summer, I want to get better mattresses for my kids, but don't want to spend a fortune.

Oh WoW! Nice! We actually got our mattress from good friends who were moving. (a queen from their guest room, slept on once) But it was very firm so be purchased the memory foam from Costco. It worked for a couple years but it is really time to get a new one. My husband has RA and we really need to get one that he can sleep the whole night through without pains.

I've gotten a chair off of Wayfair that was a return from someone else so it was marked down to $100. I was impressed when it came!

A number of years ago, DH was complaining about a pretty decent mattress that we were using. We decided to put that in the guest room, and get a Sleep Number bed. It was actually cheaper than other mattresses we looked at (We waited for Black Friday), and had a 25 year and parts warranty. So... we went with it. DH loves it.... me, I'm in the middle. It's not the most comfortable, nor is it the worst. I sleep. I do occasionally change the number on my side and it's nice to sleep and be able to change the softness/firmness of the mattress. We will be re-doing the bedroom, and I will hope my son will keep the old mattress!

Back in college, we got a mattress from IKEA.. .and some other furniture. Unexpectedly, that mattress and couch have really held up... it's been over 15 years we've had them! (Our other couch is going kaput after 7 years!)

I bought an awful brown sectional sofa a few years back. It was like foam on cardboard. It took forever to come, I couldn't return it. Worst purchase ever! I'm now on my 2nd sofa from Cost Plus World Market & I just love it. Unfortunately, they discontinued it. At least I have faith in their sofas. Our mattress is from Macy's. I bought that without feeling it. I read all the reviews about how firm it is & bought a cheap foam egg crate topper. I love that bed. I've talked about that bed here before, it's my scrapbooking island.

I am waiting on a sectional to be delivered. I bought it offline, without ever seeing it. I hope I can come back here and report that it was a good purchase.

This is the one I bought - in a queen size

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00MWTJ9OA/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It came in a long box - all rolled up and shrink wrapped. We pulled the old mattress off of the bed and plopped this one on (you need a box spring or board under it) - cut the shrink wrap and it *poofed* up. It said it could take 72 hours for it to get completely "poofed" out - but I slept on it that same night - I wasn't overly impressed because it was a bit firm - but by the 3rd night it was softer - (still firm, but soft, if that makes sense).

We got an iComfort from Sealy about 4 years ago and I HATE IT! It was almost $4000 (Cal King size), so DH won't let me replace it yet.

In June, I visited a friend in Arizona. I slept in one of her kid's beds. It was a mattress from Costco and it was heavenly. I checked and Costco makes them in Cal King! So, after we move next year, I think I am definitely switching.

We have a Serta, mini coil that allows your partner to move and you don;t feel a think. It gives in all the right places and is the best thing ever. A good night's sleep is something we have gotten so used to.
Worst purchase was the first couch we got when we got married. I had to have it as it was blue and fitted in with the colour scheme I had in mind. For 15 years it was the most uncomfortable thing ever, and I was so happy when we gave that one away.

Isn't this part fun!?!? We bought an Amazon shipped mattress too. And took video of opening it. It's not my favorite, we've had it for about 18 months. But the price was right for it, and it's fairly comfortable! I just prefer a softer mattress than DH.

Omg! That's some risk you took! I'm
I'm loooove with my current mattress after years of struggling with bad ones! So I can totally understand your love for them!! Lol :) but buying without touching it !! That's something!!
I'm very skeptical about buying online - for thugs that I need to touch and feel or try first - like clothes , shoes etc- so no - never bought before trying it. We ARE trying to buy a house purely online though, without checking it out in person - does that count? Lol :)

I'm with @tinkerbell1112 with the house moves. But when DH gets a job, you say don't really have a say in its location. *shrugs* But we did go house-hunting before our latest move, so even if I couldn't pick the state/city, it was nice to look at homes to rent. :)
Anyway, we also bought a mattress off Amazon: a twin for DS. It was less than $100 if I'm not mistaken (we looked at a few--none was more than $150). We also purchased a mattress from IKEA for DD. She at least could check them out in the store.
DH and I are trying to figure out what to do with our mattress. We have a king and it needs to be replaced. I want to get 2 twins and put them near each other so it looks like one bed BUT he's not literally sleeping next to me and snoring in my ear. He also moves a lot at night and he jumps UP to roll over. Not only does it wake me up (because I think a stranger is attacking us in our bed) but I've actually woken up with bruises cuz he slams his legs/arms into mine--and this is with a king mattress, for Pete's sake! For such a laidback dude, you'd think he was in a mosh pit when he sleeps! So right now he sleeps in another room but he'd like to move back into the master. I said he needs to stop snoring and we'll get separate beds; then I'll think about it.

We tried our mattress in the store and thought we liked it... but at home, not so much. It's okay, but I don't love it. No reason to replace it yet though. I have seen those mattresses from Amazon and we've thought about ordering them for our house in Michigan, but we decided not to change things up quite yet.

As far as big purchases without seeing them first... not so much until now (unless you count the two houses my husband bought without me seeing them first... we moved a lot with my husband's work when we were first married and had to make quick decisions). We're currently in the process of finally furnishing our living room. I ordered two chairs from Anthropologie without seeing/touching them first. They're here and I'm totally in love with them! I am supposed to order a love seat from Crate & Barrel today for the same room (dragging my feet on that one a bit). Buying these without seeing them first freaks me out, but my friend is helping me pick everything out, so I feel a bit better about things.
