Has anyone seen the new Mary Poppins movie? We just returned from seeing it. The Washington Post gave it 1-1/2 stars (out of 4) saying they were trying to parallel the original and there wasn't anything new to see. I agree, but...

I loved it. Because it's Mary Poppins!

Just thought I'd share.

Jan I loved it too.. we saw it Wednesday.. it was fantastic!!

I am so looking forward to it. Just like the live action Cinderella and Beauty and the Beast, I am not looking to watch them because they are a whole new story or anything. I am watching because DISNEY! and because MAGIC! I am looking forward to Dumbo and Lion King. and I feel like I am forgetting something, woops... but again, not because it is totally different, because it is a whole new version of the magic!

eta: Aladdin!!

I have to admit I was a bit ...in two minds, being that Julie Andrews was part, HUGE part of my childhood and I went into musical theater because of her, I taught Sarita to sing with Poppins, Sound of Music ... I'm not keen on the lack of creativity that makes people do re makes..... but I have seen bits and it sails real good, so yes, we will be watching it as soon as I can get out of bed .... :)
made two pages, one with each parade photo (in Euro Disney there is one parade at Walt Disney Studios outside one of the big rides, then there is one in ma9n park where the Main street stars (though the one in the second page is stock photo as the one I took, you can't see her face)

We’re going to see it with our homeschool drama club on Thursday. :yup
Very much looking forward to it. My girls were Banks children in their early drama club days and longer ago than that, watching the movie was my daughter Caroline’s favorite way to fall asleep when she was 3.

I saw the page @MrsPeel had made, but this one by Christa @cfile is just as amazing! I'm going to have to get those goodies by Rebecca, too.

I thought it was great on it's own.. yes I love the original, but it wasn't suppose to be a remake (as how can you remake a wonderful childhood movie) but an additional movie where the last finished off. PL Travers wrote quite a few of MP books so that is where I think they were coming from when they wrote the MPR - Regardless of whatever it was supposed to be - remake, addition .. I loved it!!

Mary Poppins Returns (2018)[edit]
Main article: Mary Poppins Returns
On 14 September 2015, Disney announced a new Mary Poppins film was to be made, with a new plot and new songs, though in P.L. Travers' final will, another movie version was not to be made according to her wishes. The film is directed by Rob Marshall and written by David Magee. Songs are composed by Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman, who both received support from Richard Sherman, who, along with his late brother-collaborator Robert Sherman wrote the iconic song score of the original Mary Poppins film. Though the film is not a reboot or remake of the original 1964 film, Mary Poppins revisits the Banks children from the first film. It is loosely based on the other seven Mary Poppins books by Travers, and expands beyond them. Emily Blunt stars as Mary Poppins,[12] alongside Lin-Manuel Miranda in the role of Jack,[13] a similar character to Dick Van Dyke's Bert from the first film.[14] It was announced on 31 May 2016 that the film is titled Mary Poppins Returns and takes place in Depression-era London, 20 years after the original film.[15] Emily Mortimer and Ben Whishaw play grown up Jane and Michael Banks.[16] The release date is 21 December 2018 in the US and the UK.[17]

I used to read the other books during breaks when I was in grad school. I can’t remember much about them but I loved them! I would hang out in the juvenile section and read the AA Milne, PL Travers, and other classic children’s books. It was a great way to decompress from all that educational pedagogue!
