Have you ever had an experience with apple support to send off your mac for repair?
Is anyone using one of the new Mac Mini M1's?

My experience can't be normal. I sent mine off on May 6th, and it was due to back at the latest May 11th. No one at Apple can tell me anything other than there is "problems" at the repair center mine is at. They said if it's not back by the 21st they will order me a replacement. Only they can't. It doesn't exist anymore. They have very few similar options, all much less expensive and all would take two+ weeks more to order.

I'm so frustrated but I finally talked my husband into a temporary replacement option (as recommended by Apple but we had to buy it ourselves!)... I got an M1 Mac Mini with the base specs of 512gigs for a hard drive and 8 gigs of ram. I couldn't get any better specs without a lengthy wait for a custom order. It's been a bit of a hot mess. It has major glitches with the screen. It runs things okay but is VERY slow compared to my 32 gigs of ram.

I just needed to vent. See if others have had an experience like this, if so, how you handled it or how it got worked out?

I feel lost as to what to do. My computer worked fine but had a battery service warning (only 2 years old) and needed a new keyboard/topcase. But it sits at the repair center and no one has any idea why or where it even is. It's just utter madness.

That is awful!! And honestly surprising, I would think Apple had good customer service...given how pricey their products are. I haven't sent anything to them for repairs before, but I hope you get it back soon! *crossing fingers*

I thought it was surprising too. I wasn't thrilled with 3-5 days but most said it's likely to be 3 and so fast for something like this. And now I am looking at never getting it back. Apple has apparently had some major issues. I read numerous complaints from the last 6+ months. I was surprised the store claims they had no idea things were this bad. There is no way to complain and get help either. No one can do anything. I'm not bashing them exactly just something has to change. The CEO was quoted talking about how they have made all their devices where others can't do the repairs, only apple. I wouldn't mind that as much if it wasn't such a hot mess.

Did you know there's a lawsuit and the legislature has a bill that would prevent companies from being the sole repair people? Like how you can take your car elsewhere now, and the warranty isn't voided.

Also, I've never owned an Apple computer. I had enough issues with the iPods and exclusivity.

@michelepixels You are an Apple user. Have you had or heard of this issue?

I'm sorry, no. I've only walked my iMac into Apple stores for repair.

That lawsuit could be helpful in the future. I have to drive about 45 minutes to both of the nearest Apple stores, one to the busier north (shorter distance but more traffic) and one to the more rural south (longer distance but little traffic).

I have only ever done store walkins too but this one, despite the ability to repair in store, would take too much time and would require them to order parts. They were unwilling to order parts in advance or even check if they had them so the store could complete the repair. They have been unwilling across the board. (my store is over an hour as well)

The lawsuit is legislation called Right to Repair. It calls for big companies like Apple (John Deer Tractor was on the list as well) to make available the specialized tools and parts so that small businesses can also do these repairs. Apple for example has continued to make their products with parts so specialized that you can't get them anywhere and the tools you need to even open the devices to repair are so specialized that no one has those either. It forces consumers to go back to these big companies for the repairs at higher costs but supposedly "higher quality" HA.

Jeff Williams the CEO of Apple was quoted talking about how its better b/c with this way Apple is "trusted" and you know you are getting quality, top notch repairs. In his quote, he used the word prohibition. They prohibit the standard user/small business from working together if they so choose for repairs. It takes away from the common user's freedom of choice and in the meanwhile shuts down small business repair centers worked on these types of devices.

But they also have you cornered in usage. I was told when having issues with my EHDs to format them all to mac only. So I did. I couldn't dump my apple computer if I wanted to. To get all the devices cleared and reformatted would be a massive nightmare. It didn't dawn on me at the time, but it was a play they made which forces me to stay an apple user. At least when my pc laptops broke down every year, a new one was reasonably priced and easily available.

I don't have an Apple computer, but my scrappy buddy does. She had to get her graphics card replaced last year and they told her it was going to take 2 weeks and she was getting twitchy not having a computer for that long, but her experience was the exact opposite of yours... they had it back to her in days. She was shocked how fast it was back in her hands. I'm so sorry that you are having a bad experience. I sure hope they hurry up and get it back to you. Maybe you'll get some free iTunes cash or something in the end. I hope they do something to make it right!

Twitchy is one word for it, lol.

I use mine for work too so every day costs money but the anxiety was way worse than the losses.

I am glad she didn't have the same experience. I'd always been told they were fast and caring with your devices. But there is something massively going wrong with at least one or more of their repair facilities since last fall. I did tell the customer relations person that while I am not greedy and never want something for free, this situation is very warranted of a goodwill gesture. As it stands I have no desire to buy or shop with apple. I wasn't a valued customer, no one cares about the issue or why it's happening and no one has any answers. Something is massively wrong with that and they need to step up and admit the mistakes/issues and take responsibility. I gather there are hundreds and hundreds of customers with repairs being affected.

That's a bummer your PC laptops broke so quick! Munchkin is still using one that is 7 years old! I should replace the battery, because it has to stay plugged in because the batter is dead. But that's the only issue with it right now.

That's amazing. My niece has an older pc laptop we got her but she has not taken great care of it. It does still run. I do graphic intense work with my photo editing and for some reason it seems to always tax them. My husband has my 2016 laptop and it works, just can't handle anything like photoshop or lightroom.

I did get my macbook pro back this week. It came back filthy and covered in greasy fingerprints and maybe salt of potato chips. The screen is damaged (although its fortunately mild) so I am in the process now of figuring that out. lol. It's my kind of luck for sure. I do appreciate that ya'll don't mind that I vented about it here.

@Kat Yeah, I can run Photoshop or Lightroom on it, but not at the same time. We bought it as a gaming one, so the graphics card was on the high end side. I also replaced the RAM, so it has 16GB, not the 8GB that it came with. It's not as fast as my desktop obviously, but it works in a pinch.
For Munchkin, it works fabulous!

@Kat I'm glad you got it back! I hope they reimburse you for the screen. It seems wrong they sent it back with a broken screen! And ugh on the greasy. That's really annoying.
