Hello everyone!!

I am excited to bring you the last M3 challenge for this month, but not as excited as I am for the next set to release!! Woo-hoo!! It is unbelievable! :yesss

The August M3 collab and add-ons are chock full of wonderful stamps. My challenge to you is to use them in reverse... as erasers!!

Not only can stamps add gorgeous texture and color, but they can cut away from papers and paint to reveal images and patterns underneath! This is a technique I used on one of the papers in the collab. I overlayed two papers and used stamps to cut away from the top paper, revealing the paper below. Then I added some black stamps and writing between the two layers, peeking out through the cutouts.

To cut away using a stamp, simply place the stamp where you want to cut, select the stamp, and delete the selection from the paper you want to cut. :thumbsups

Here is the paper I created using this technique:

ok, am gonna have to cheat a bit as in my program I have no idea how to cut the other way around... (I know I can put a stamp on top of the paper, join the two layers , right click & crop, but that will give the stamp ...not sure how to do other way round) but will try!!!!

Cynthia...I think I figured it out. The layers would be 1. background layer. 2. paper one 3. paper two 4. stamp. Don't merge any layers.

Then I selected the layer with the stamp on it and used the magic wand and clicked right outside the stamp. You should see the dots around the outside edges of the stamp, and the edges of the paper as well. Go up and click Select, then Inverse. Then, select the paper two and click delete. You can then remove the layer with the stamp on it and you should have your paper one showing through where your stamp was.

Hope this made sense! There might be an easier way but this is what I found to work!

Oh, this sounds super fun and who wouldn't want to win $10 to your store???? I'm in!!!

Here is mine.. I also added a inner shadow to the & to make it look like a cut out negative stamp :)the flower stamped edge is more of the true negative stamping technique.. loved it though!

Hi Cynthia
CA "cheat" ; make a stencil with your stamp , take your stencil and place it on your page, add a paper on top, (it is important it goes on top )
click on the stencil choose outer click to remove stencil, add a small shadow.
hope it helps.

These are awesome! I see that you've taken the technique a step further to make it a cut-out. That's great too! However, I just want to clarify that the negative stamping technique can also be used without the shadow to replicate the idea of using a shape as a mask, painting over it, and then removing the mask to reveal the image below. This is different that cutting through the paper. Both methods are good, but I just want to give you the shadowless option as another way to use your stamps. ;)

The best stamps to use for this technique are ones with grungy outlines, like paint or distressed stamps. The clean line stamps work well for cut-outs.

Was excited about this challenge until I tried to load the brushes into CS3 and was told they are not compatible. Are there PNG's that could go with the brushes? All I can do is sit here and drool. These were the brushes that came with the kit. Your Artsy bits work fine.

Debra, thanks so much:) problem is, I don't scrap in any Photoshop program, is a Serif one called Craft Artist Professional.... and we don't have some of the options yopu guys have, or they are called something else so you need to either figure it out be a good learner (which on reading instructions am not LOL)
Vivi uses the same so I may make another page after the directions!!!!

Thanks SO much!!!!!!!
I should have thought of the stencil thing..... my CAP is the version before last, I have some dodgie problem with making stencils but am quiet sure it will work... I may make another page- I worked my way around by using the leaves as a mask, then adding layers on top, but not all that happy with the page, so may have another go next week (operation is Thursday)

here is the page I ended up with, I picked the leaves because they were the easier way out for me :)

This was a great technique as I did it both ways.. I think it works better as you said with stamps with grunginess and bigger :)
