Ok, I know we've had this discussion before, but I'm too lazy to look it up.

So I know there are a million ideas on Pinterest these days, but I'd love to hear what you guys are giving your kids!

I bought these boxes ... my kids are notorious for losing lunch boxes so I figured cheap and disposable was good.

I would love ideas for things other than sandwiches. My poor kids get sandwiches EVERY day and they get really tired of them ... I just don't know what else to make! I do cheese & crackers with salami or another meat but that's about it. Help!

My kid will eat the school lunch most days, but he has requested a lunch from home this year for those days when it's not his fav meal.

We're going to do...
meatballs
cheese quesadilla
chicken nuggets
pita pizza

with fruits and veggies as sides

And I'm still looking for other ideas. The only kind of sandwich L.J. will eat is PB & J so I have to come up other ideas.

I need to look for those containers...pretty cool!

I've always tried to sneak roll ups in there. You know, tortillas with meat/cheese etc.

But I have one that only likes PBJ sandwiches and one that will only eat salami sandwiches.

So I gave up and they eat the hot lunch. :rofl

I pack
Ravioli
Chicken wraps
Bagel's with cream cheese
Crackers and cheese with cut up meat
Pasta with cheese
Chicken Cesar salad
Alfredo
Pizza Pockets
and loads more, mysty is really picky but Logan will eat anything in his lunch

Colton likes sandwiches most days, but at least 3 times a month, he requests 'Easter Eggs'.
I send 2 or 3 boiled eggs with a little salt shaker for seasoning salt and he will eat those. I also put the other necessities in there... Fruit snacks, granola bar, etc.

I love those containers! Have to see if I can find some here!

My kids will pretty much only eat noodles. Great for all seasons except summer because neither can warm up their lunches during the summer months. I send some in thermoses but they don't stay all that hot because there is no hot liquid. Sometimes they eat sandwiches, but not all that often. Neither will eat cream cheese or eggs or even salads. It really limits my choices.

I would SO love it if they could both have hot lunch programs at school and daycare. Sigh...

Looking forward to seeing everyone's ideas. Perhaps I will find something new to add to the mix!

My girl prefers cold lunch and has never really cared for the schools lunch...

I always pack a sandwich, fruit or veggie, chips or crackers and some type of sweat treat. Her favorites sandwiches are PB, ham & cheese, or beef roll-ups.

The Nutella snack packs are big hit for a sweat treat.

As a treat, I will pick her up a Subway sub the night before and pack her that; I score mother of the year points with this one.

My kids have sandwiches once or twice a week, any more and they come back uneaten. I do have this plastic thing from a Japanese store that makes sandwich pockets, I usually fill them with chopped up chicken, lettuce and mayo. They love those, but they take a while to make.
I also do cheese quesadillas, sushi (just vegies or chicken), caesar salad with chicken nuggets, chinese dumplings.
My daughter has a thermos cantainer and takes noodles sometimes.
And ocasionally I get them a pretzel or a cheese roll from the bakery.

The one year we did public school, my kiddos took all kinds of things - pasta salads with lots of veggies, romaine salads, tortilla wraps with hummus and veggies and maybe meat, pitas, sandwiches like egg salad, chickpea faux-tuna salad, chicken salad, ham and cheese, etc. On days where we had a supper they really liked like a soup or casserole, I'd put some of the leftovers in their thermos and they'd take that. They also had a piece of fresh fruit in there as well, usually apple, banana, berries, grapes, or clementine (easy to peel). Then they'd have a water bottle as well. If they felt like it, they'd pick up a carton of milk at the counter, but my kiddos are like me and prefer water to milk by far.

We only do hot lunches.

And Bella, Bella either takes leftovers to PDO, PB&J, or chicken nuggets.

Thanks girls! Lots of great ideas here ... I really need to have the kids sit here with me and look at pictures and see what they want. And I need to make a check list because at 11:30 at night I can never remember which two like string cheese and which two don't, or which two like salami on their turkey sandwich and which two don't, etc. haha

Just fyi, I just got those containers at Target ... they were on sale last week - I think the 2 pack was like $2.50 or something like that. So pretty cheap. I bought four (so 8 containers) to have extras around just in case they get lost or don't get washed, etc. I wrote each kid's initials on a lid so I know whose is whose without opening them up (although - I just saw on Pinterest that someone uses a dry erase marker for that ... darn it! Should have thought of that. Oh well). And so far so good! The are big but they still fit in all of our lunch boxes.

I've been on the hunt for good prices on thermoses ... my kids have NEVER (how sad - my oldest is in 7th grade!) taken anything warm to school for lunch. LOL I let them buy lunch at school maybe twice a month but other than that, it's been sandwiches almost every day. How boring!

Glad to see this thread. I've been feeling unprepared for the school year, so this has got me motivated. Those disposable lunch boxes look awesome but I don't think they would work with our carriers. I'll have to think about a thermos, I'm not sure I would even know what to put in it!

my kids do like the pbj, but i DON'T like sending that with them all the time.
besides sandwiches, we have a few alternatives...

apple slices and peanutbutter or nutella
some other protein options we go to often: yogurt w/ granola, cheese, cottage cheese, egg whites, mixed nuts
