I know Nov is a month of gratitude for many of us (for me and a certain other Wog of All Pollys it's also our birthday month!). What do you look forward to most this month?
I know the phrase is "I'm glad we live in a world with Octobers" but here in my part of the Southern Hemisphere, the colour of October isn't all that different to other months really but November is the winding down of the year for us (with school and DH's work) and is the lull in activities before December so that's what I look forward to every November.
What about you?

For me ... November really is about gratitude and family ... Thanksgiving is really the favorite holiday for me as an adult. It's about good comfort food and family, but without all the hustle, bustle and stress that December brings to the table.

It's also the last month to really get outside and enjoy ... before the snow and cold sets in. I'm not a fan of cold.

November, after the first week is more relaxing than September and October. The first marking period at school ends, so big tests and big projects are due the first week of school... plus soccer is winding down for the fall, and so it will be a cozy month! It also leads to a little crazy December, so I'll take the slow ahead of the busy!

This month has been really warm, so I am enjoying that a lot! I'm not a cold person, and summer is my season, but I'll take a mild November!

Happy Birthday Justine! @bellbird

I hadn't really thought about what November means to me. I guess I'd better slow down a bit and think on all the things I'm thankful for. I know I've been blessed and need to be grateful and think on those things instead of worrying about my health and focusing on my side pain. Thanks for the reminder. That will give me something to focus on today during my CT scan. Here's hoping they don't find kidney stones, but I would like to know what's causing all the pain.

@bellbird Justine, it's my birthday month too! And for one of my daughters and my son. And a few other relatives and friends! LOL :grouphug I just put a birthday tablecloth on my table yesterday and decided to leave it up through my birthday on the 22nd.

Besides birthdays we have some other big fun stuff going on this month. My younger daughter has been rehearsing for the last couple of months for a community theater production of Into The Woods. She's Little Red's Granny. The shows will be next weekend, the 11th through 13th. :thankyou

Also exciting this month is that in 11 days we're driving 7 hours south of us to see Pentatonix in concert in South Carolina. :happydance2 Besides it being one of the most awesome bands ever, I'm simply looking forward to a trip to somewhere new. I've haven't been outside of northern Virginia/D.C. in 3 years! My girls have, but not me. My oldest is the most excited about the concert. She's been to Seattle and Indianapolis in the last 2 years, with her dad, for gaming conventions. My other daughter and my husband just went to a Broadway show in NYC last April (she's seen more of NYC than I have!) She is not a big fan of music (except musical theater) and is dreading the drive, but didn't want to be left behind. (My son is staying here with friends. Husband will be on a business trip.)

I love Thanksgiving too. I always make a list of things I'm grateful for, and cook a big traditional turkey, stuffing, pumpkin pie feast for family and friends. :wub

And then of course, there's election day! So glad it will be over soon!

November is usually the start of a long winter in Canada, so does not really make me happy, but I do hang on to one of my American traditions, which is American Thanksgiving. Canadian Thanksgiving on October 10th just doesn't seem to have the same enthusiasm as it did for me in the states. With a first grandchild on the way, an enggement for my other son - I am looking forward to our family celebration of American Thanksgiving this month.

Since our thanksgiving is in October (Canadian), we've already celebrated, so once November comes, it is more about what it signifies for the upcoming months. It's the time change so the days will be shorter, its colder and wetter, so it signifies bringing out the sweaters, warm coats, boots, etc and gets me thinking more about comfort food....stews, soups, hearty meals. It's also gets my brain thinking about Xmas. I always go shopping on Black Friday so get a big chunk of shopping done that night. I love the start of the holiday season.

November to me is dance in the first part of the month and family at the end.

There is a big dance festival here called Dance Chicago, it starts in November. It's the first time I get to see some of my daughter's dances on stage each season. I can't wait! She has shows next Friday and Saturday and another December 3rd.

As for family. We don't get together with extended family on Thanksgiving. We see both at Christmas, but we would have to pick one at Thanksgiving since both are in different states. So, we focus on our unit of four. We go to our place in Michigan and have a little chunk of uninterrupted family time for the first time after school starts. We're always going so many different directions, it's so nice to have time together to hang out, watch movies, play board games, etc.

As much as I love my family, I'm not a huge fan of Thanksgiving. I tell everyone how grateful I am every single day. I don't miss a chance to say how much I love people since my dad passed & I don't know if he knew people loved him. Which reminds me, I love all of you & am so grateful to have this place. I work with my mom, so we see each other all the time. My dad's brother lives one block away from my mom. On Thanksgiving Day, my husband, kids, & I always spend the day in Lake Tahoe. We just play in the snow all day. Then, we head home (4hr drive) & have dinner somewhere along the way. Our favorite is Sizzler because there's something there for everyone & they do a turkey meal with pumpkin pie that my husband loves.

My mom will often cook the whole Thanksgiving feast the day after because she likes turkey & gatherings. Maybe I sound mean, but to me I prefer to focus on my little family of four & see my boys' happy little faces. I love enjoying the weather & appreciate that the snow is just a short drive away. The leaves don't really change in San Francisco since it's mostly redwoods, cypress, & eucalyptus around here. So, I like getting away to places where nature changes. I also really like going to farms in the fall. The rest of the month is usually just busy at the hospital, so I work.

sadness .... as we aproach the holidays, as my Mom always made wonderful dinner for us. Each years comes alittle easier, but it is still there

Oh I was doing fine about November and the holidays until posts about parents. This may be my holidays without the phone call from my Dad. I don't know what's happening with him so it's hard this month.
Holidays months have been changing for our family the past couple years. So it's interesting to watch.

This made me smile. I feel the opposite! I love how many vegetables and everything is still in season when we celebrate Canadian Thanksgiving. American Thanksgiving always feels more of a let down to me because of all the Black Friday and Christmas overriding it.

Ah, hugs Cath!

I've always been in the Northern parts where November = cold, and indoors, and blah. So I've never looked forward to it. Plus, I hate how all the November holidays seem to be overridden by the march to Christmas. I like Christmas, but I despise having the decorations and music starting on November 1.

This year, I'm enjoying the warm weather, and the bright sunshine. I'm looking forward to a visit from family for Thanksgiving.

It's my birthday month, too :) Mine was yesterday but we really aren't celebrating until Saturday when all the kids are off work. This month I am looking forward to a possible trip to the beach for Thanksgiving if we can work it out, having my evenings free again after a couple of months of non-stop running, and everything slowing down just a little. Between Thanksgiving and Christmas gets a bit crazy. The weather here has been amazing and has made the fall much more enjoyable than usual :)

For me November usually means we are traveling somewhere, a big trip travel, but this year the satellite dh has been working on is finally being launched. He was to be in FL mid month but there has been another delay. Hurricane Matthew has done a number on this launch so he's coming back home early. Our Thanksgiving has almost always been at my son's house but with their move to NC, and Dick presumably/possibly being in Fl right up to the day, our plans have been up in the air. Dick's daughter is a very high maintenance vegetarian so even going out on T-day can be stressful. I voted we find someplace and serve dinner to that group..homeless etc.

But one thing November will always mean for me is Veterans Day. My middle son, when we were in the US and he was local, always went into DC and visited the Wall. I also had my knee replaced on Veterans Day in 2014 so it's a big gratitude day for me in many respects now.

I have voted and now the news can just wash over me. :hide
