Our granddaugther, Harper (3 years old), will be having minor surgery to get tubes put into her ears the first part of December and at the time the ENT surgeon will also perform a Frenectomy ... clipping the skin growing from her lip in between her two front teeth.

(She continues to get colds and have ear aches ... when she gets really ill, suffers from Febrile Seizures ... so I surely hope the tubes help keep the gunk out (or whatever they are supposed to do!) and help her stay more healthy!

I know there are quite a few young mom's here @ TLP, would be interested if anyone has ever dealt with a Frenectomy procedure ...

TIA!

Aw, hugs to your granddaughter! My niece had tubes put in just a few months ago and they have made a HUGE difference for her. She had some type of infection almost constantly (cold, ear infection, etc) and now... nothing. And her vocab is way up cuz she can hear better!

My DD basically gave herself a frenectomy when she fell and (because somehow her mouth was open just right) she smacked her frenulum on a table edge. It "cut" itself away from her gums a bit. And she was fine. My MIL was a dental hygienist so I called her and she said as long as it stopped bleeding then she'd be OK. My point is, if my DD can do that to herself, then your GD should be fine under a doctor's care (and with meds!). But it can be so nerve-wracking for the parents. I hope they are able to be calm before/during/after the procedures!

Thanks for the info!!

Ouch! on your DD hitting her little mouth!! Glad things worked out okay though!!

Our son was constantly sick w/ colds and ear infections until he had tubes put in - so I think Harper will feel much better too ... ! I'm sure she'll do fine w/ the frenectomy as well ... I think I fret more over the grandbabies than I did with our own son! LOL!

Hoping all goes well, Jill! A bit scary, but I'm sure it will all be ok, and hoping she will be healthier.

I think Grandparents sometimes worry more than the parents, because there are two people that you are technically worrying about - your child and your child's child. That makes you instantly worry about what can happen, and how it can affect both of them. It comes from a sweet and caring place.

My daughter had a frenectomy - it is so super quick - seriously in and out. I didn't tell her too much about it because she was super timid about all procedures. I think she was about 7 or 8 when she had it done. Considering my daughter was a huge chicken - needles, blood, Drs in general ... she handled that procedure like a champ. I distracted her while they gave her the needle/novacaine, but she was already numb from the gel they swipe on the area. She didn't feel a thing, wasn't at all scared, had maybe two stitches, and honestly felt fine after it was done. There really was no pain for her at all after it was done. It was smooth sailing.

Good luck with the tubes and frenectomy! I do remember all her issues with those seizures ... fingers crossed this helps! :beat

Thoughts and prayers that everything goes quickly and well. I think it's harder on us as parents and grandparents, than it is on the little ones. Hope the tubes do the trick!!
My new grandson just had the frenectomy, but because he is only 6 weeks old it was nothing more than a local anesthetic and a quick snip. The dr. told her if she waited til he was a year or more they would have to sedate him. I went with my daughter and she made me be the one to sit in the chair with him and hold his arms and legs down while they snipped. She made a bottle to comfort him after. He was a little sore for most of the next day, but after that he was fine. He may also have to have his tongue done in the future, but they are currently not very concerned about it. They only decided to do the lip because he was having difficulty latching and taking in a lot of air when he was eating.

Anything with our little ones is scary for us, no matter how big or small the surgery, of course you'll worry. But, I bet she'll be fine and you will snuggle and spoil her just a little bit more during her recovery :)

We have friends who have been through these with there children- worth it has been their consensus so fingers crossed it works for her too!

oh Jill, hope all goes well... I know how difficult it can be, you are in our prayers Huge huggzz
