Lilypad Book Club - let's select our first book!

I thought we could throw some ideas around for our first book. Who has a suggestion? If we can get a few ideas, we can do a Pad Poll and vote on it.

How fun! Now, I've never been a part of a book club before but I would assume that it would have to be a book that none of use has read or is that not so?

Jen, I think it might be tough to find a book that none of us has read! We have so many voracious readers here. :) In my IRL book club, we try to pick things that will promote great discussions, even if a few people have read it.

I was thinking we will:
1. have a "due date" for when participants will have read it
2. open the discussion with a chat night in the chat room
3. have an ongoing discussion for the month(?) in the forum

How does that sound to everyone?

Oh, yay! How fun!! I've never been in a book club! :) Since I've been asking around about what books I should read in all of the spare time I don't have, heehee, I'll let you girls do the suggesting. Can't wait to get started though!

That sounds great. I suggest choosing an older book so I have a chance of getting it from the library. I'm old school. LOL Maybe we could also get a kit to go along with the theme of the book. :)

Genius!! Love the kit idea!

Yay!!! Totally excited to start too!!

I've been intrigued wirh Debra's fav book, Here Be Dragons -sounds like a really cool and fun read!

I'm game for anything! I love to read, but I'm not a very insightful reader, LOL! My reading is on a very superficial level, just give me a good story and I'm happy! hehe!

Me too! I second the vote for the Here Be Dragons at some point....

I am SO excited about this! :) "sorry honey, I can't talk to you right now I have an assignment for my book club" Sa-weet! :)

Ooooh this sounds like so much fun..and I love the idea of having a due date and a scheduled chat. I also will probably have to check it out from the library but as long as it's not a super new item shouldn't be an issue.

A few books I'd really like to read but need to have something make me (like an awesome book club). I really need something to get me back to reading regularly.

Emma - Jane Austin
The Book Thief - Markus Zusak
Sold - Patricia McCormick
Always Looking Up- Michael J Fox

ROFL!! I LOVE it Karen!!!!

I vote for either Here Be Dragons or The Book Thief. Several people have suggested those in my "Calling All Bookworms" thread. :D

I was looking at Here be Dragons yesterday and it does sound intriguing. The only issue is that it is over 700 pages, so it may take too long to read for a book club. At least not the first month. I think The Book Thief would be a great first book. or...Unbroken

I was just looking at how long it was too, Lisa, and scared that might be a little overwhelming for the first go round!
I have been wanting to read the Book Thief as well and have heard good things about Unbroken.

Oh dear. I didn't know the dragon book was so long. Yeah. We should pick that for month three and start it now. LOL! I'm up for either of the other two as well. :). Just tell me what to read and I'll be there!

I'm in! :D I haven't read either of the two books being recently discussed, so I'm up for either of them.
