Hi people,

I'm not new to the Lilypad Store but am new to the Forum and am jumping right in with a question. Will write an intro later is anyone would be interesting in reading that. ;-)

I was wondering is there was someone who could tell me if the Lightroom pre-sets from Sabrina Dupre are compatible with the new Lightroom 4? Or is there a way I can ask Sabrina herself? I didn't see a blog address or a email listed.

I have been a beta tester for Lightroom 4 and yesterday it hit the stores. I purchased mine immediately and thanks Adobe for the great price reduction. Was really happy to see that one! I thought the price of LR 3 was real steep, one of the reasons I held off and than I got the offer to be a beta tester which was a great opportunity. But I was dreading the day that it would end and I had to shell out almost $400 for a new version. But to my surprise and I think to most people Adobe lowered their price to $149 about 50% less than LR 3. Not bad eh?

Would love to use Sabrina's pre-sets if I knew if they were compatible.

Well, now I have to go look at Sabrina's presets!! lol... welcome and yes, love to read your intro... but no clue if these work in 4... I'd guess yes because I've been using the 4 beta and have moved over a couple of my other presets from as early as LR2. I actually JUST bought 3 a few months ago, lol... go figure...

I will point Sabrina to this thread for you. Her presets are wonderful - in fact, they are amongst the ones I use mostly frequently myself.

Welcome to the Pad! Look forward to your intro as well. :)

Hi and welcome!! I do not have LR4 (I use LR3) but would be thrilled if you are interested in testing them out for me! Just shoot me a PM if you are interested!

Could one of you ladies tell me how Lightroom differs from photoshop elements? Thanks so much!

In short:
Adobe Photoshop Elements is an image editing program.
Adobe Photoshop LightRoom is an image management program.

With LR short for LightRoom you catalog your image collection, whether that are photos or other images doesn't matter. Although in the case of scrapbook supply catalog it does matter and it has one big disadvantage and that is that it does not work with .png files because .png does not allow you to add meta data, the description of what that image is.

The scrapbook community has found ways around it and there are lots of excellent tutorials to teach you how you simply can convert the .png files to another format. Once that is done you can catalog your whole supply papers and elements and your photos of course.

Photoshop Lightroom does have some limited image editing on board but nothing like PSE. You can download a trial version good for 30 days from the Adobe site and take one of the free courses and see if it fits your work flow.
I picked up a lot of tips from digitals 101 web site. The course is free.(don't know if I'm allowed to post links in this forum to other scrapbooking web sites so just PM me if you need the link) ;-)

Hope this helps. if you have more questions I'll be happy to answer them.

I played last night just a bit before bed and it looks like LR4 works great with Sabrina's presets... and the presets are REALLY good btw!!

I really do need to learn how to catalog in LR.

Same here, played shortly with them, the importing is always the most tricky part but that went well. I have a stash of photos I have been meaning to work on and will put them really to the test this weekend. That is is this nasty cold my husband brought home doesn't jump over to me!

BTW Kat, are you serious about having to learn to catalog? What were you using Lr for than? Just curious :-)

In my opinion, LR gives you way more options in editing your images and it's easier to do. You can pick a color you want to stand out and just move the slider....or if there is too much red, just move the slider! I feel like it gives me tons more options for editing my photos. I am a total PSE girl for everything but I am loving LR for editing!! You can google all kinds of tutorials and helpful info!

just a tip for people who doesn't have LR:
if you only got Photoshop CS+ you can do the same if you "open up in camera raw" from Bridge (right click on file). it doesn't necessarily have to be raw-files :)

I actually prefer editing pictures in LR over PSE or CS5... It's very similar but more advanced to Adobe Camera Raw which is a part of PSE.... I do my editing in LR and then bring it over to CS5 to put in my layouts... and I'm totally LOVING Sabrina's presets and have now become an addict LOLOL

Darn! Now you ladies have me wanting Lightroom. Financially that is not going to happen for a very long time though. I'll just have to learn how to do more with elements now. I tried Krista's tutorial on how to lighten and brighten photos. It amazed me how fast and easy it is. I'm sure there are lots of way to improve my photos, with elements, I don't even know about. For now I'll have to wait on Lightroom but it sounds great!

and to add to this... in PSE you can open you .jpg in Adobe Camera Raw too so you don't have to use RAW files necessarily either

just click on "Open As" which is right underneath "Open" and then change your option to Camera Raw and it will open your .jpg as a RAW file in ACR... just note that if it's not a RAW file it has lost a lot of info in the picture itself so it's not as easy to fix an underexposed picture as it is if you shoot in RAW... your edits will always be much cleaner in RAW but the file is HUGE so many don't and opening the .jpg in ACR is a nice alternative if you're worried about space and shooting in .jpg

I use LR for editing right now... I do what I call "pre-edits" like straightening and adjusting color and sometimes cloning out blemishes or something... then I pull my photos into CS5 for final editing (I love running actions)... I probably wouldn't even use photoshop for edits if some of my favorite actions were presets.

I got lightroom for 99 bucks with my educational discount.... totally worth it!
B&H has it cheaper than that... http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/845954-REG/Adobe_65164859_Photoshop_Lightroom_4_Software.html
