Lightroom - Importing questions

I scrap with RAW. When I find the picture(s) I want, I right-click and choose Edit In / Open as Smart Object in Photoshop. Once it's in PS, you can work with it as normal whether it is RAW or JPG. No need to convert. :)

It totally changed my life too, I'm glad it helped you out. Now I am working on perfecting my editing prior to PL workflow!

You could let Picasa find all your people. Then search for those and create "new" tags for each person. Picasa will write the tags you create to the metadata (to your jpg files) which can be read in Lightroom, but for some reason the auto-recognition tags in Picasa are not.

Great idea, Lisa!!! I haven't thought about that! What a smart people all around here!
You are/were also Picasa user?

I have another question: I have been importing photos into the LR catalog from my pc, a folder where I have been drawing all 'loose photos' in. But I think I have some duplicate photos allthough I checked the option to not enetr duplicate photos.
Is there a way to make LR search for duplicate photos?

I have another question, since I read somewhere else in the forum people were also importing their stash into LR.
In a way, that would be good for me, since LR doesn't require the EHD to be hooked on like in Picasa. But could you open 2 sessions at time of LR or not? That way I would open one with the photo catalog and the other with the stash catalog...

To be honest, I would be very surprised if it's possible....
Bus asking can bring some good reveals, I allready learned that here!

Thanks in advance!

No, you can't have two sessions open at the same time. You either need your photos and stash to be in the same catalog, or you have one open at a time.

I have mine in separate catalogs and it's not a big deal, IMO. I almost always pick my photos, send them to Photoshop, and then open my stash. I don't need to look at the photo catalog again. If for some reason, I do, then I just tell LR to open it again. It doesn't take long for it to reopen with another catalog.

I know at least a couple people at TLP have everything in one catalog. You can group your keywords and set up collections so everything isn't jumbled together. If it's important to you to be able to see both at the same time, it's definitely doable. :)

I just added my stash and I just set up a big "supplies" collection and then a big "photos" collection so that I can use one or the other without having to switch catalogs, but I don't really see them all together ever. I am a total convert to organizing supplies in Lightroom now and I'm slowly adding everything in and then I'm going to go about adding my actual layouts in as well.

I have a quickie question!!!
I want to share some of my photos with my family, but as they are in DNG, people can't view them.
How can I convert the photos fast and in full size to jpg in Lightroom????

Right-click the photo(s) and go to "Export..." :) If you have Dropbox or similar, you can export JPGs to your Dropbox folder and then easily share the link with family.

I did find that after a bit of searching but the photos are less than 1 MB, so I thought it were compressed photos.

Oh, and where in the menu would that be Lorry? Sorry if I'm bugging you...
