I can't even explain what I saw ... a severe lightening storm was just passing through. And I was sitting with my daughter when a flash or a spark or something ... seemed like it appeared inside the house - right before our eyes. It was surreal and it stunned me into silence. Then a few seconds later, the biggest boom of thunder. I actually screamed. I think it was the combination of both things happening one right after the other.

Then a minute later, my husband who was working from home came into the room and said he was shocked (just a small jolt) - he said the Roku remote was right next to his leg - and the TV was fried.

Seems like everything else in the house was spared ... but my goodness that was a crazy minute! I've never experienced anything like it. YIKES!

Oh my goodness, that must have been scary! I've heard that lightning can strike indoors, but that's usually if there's some type of exposed metal beam or something inside for the lightning to jump to. I'm glad everyone is okay, but I'm sorry about your TV.

Wow that's crazy! I thought houses were 'grounded' or something like that so that couldn't happen? Still nuts! I would be in shock too (pun intended!) ;)

I'm kind of freaked thinking about what could have caused it and how exactly it happened?

I know many people who have lost appliances in severe thunder storms - including my brother just a few months ago. But I swear we saw a flash or spark inside. {{shudder}}

And ... turns out my 17 yr old son was upstairs taking a shower at the time. Um, really?

Oh gosh! That's crazy!

I was getting home with Olivia when she was small and we had just pulled into the garage. Lightning struck the tree next to the garage and actually ran over to the house, blowing out our garage door opener, the washer and dryer and a couple of other things. The light was so bright and the sound was so loud from the impact and the thunder that we both screamed. I had a mini prayer session after that. It was so scary, so I know how you are feeling!!! ((HUGS))

Yikes!! That's really scary!! Sorry about your tv, but glad that's the worst thing that happened.

Wow, that must have been so scary! I'm so glad that everyone is fine. Sorry about the TV though.

Yikes!! So glad it wasn't worse - I can't imagine how scary it was!!!

A friend's husband was physically struck by lightening years ago - he was walking up a hill during a storm and he said the next thing he knew he was flat on his back at the bottom of the hill. He had quite a few medical issues afterwards - scary stuff!!

It sounds like your house got struck by lightning. A friend's house was struck last year. They lost just about every appliance in the house - including the furnace and air conditioner, and the water heater that burst and ruined their laminate floors. The fire department and the insurance inspector both told them they were lucky the house didn't burn to the ground. And they were home at the time too! If all you lost was the tv, then you're very lucky!

So scary Jenn! Happy no one was hurt - bizarrely, I always had a fear of this as a child - we had a lightning conductor on our roof, no idea if it worked or not but it was a comfort for a small fearful child knowing it was there!

I was driving next to a traffic light when it was hit once - such a noise and sparks everywhere- was glad to get away...

You guys - these stories are all scary and crazy!

My neighbor was home at the time and saw the same thing I did - he said it blew out his kitchen TV, a router and a cable box - all 3 things in separate rooms.

I always loved to look at lightening storms outside (safely - or so I thought!) from inside my home - I don't think I'll ever look at them the same way again. I still don't really understand what the heck happened. How it hit multiple homes - what that flash of light was about - and how something so loud and bright could only claim my one TV? But I'm so thankful that is all that happened.

Today the sun is out and the sky is blue! :agree

Oh my gosh Jenn! That would totally freak me out! I can't believe that the flash was actually inside your house and the only thing that fried was your one TV... but I'm so thankful that you are all okay. And it's especially weird that your neighbor saw a flash too! Electricity is such a weird beast!

It hit your neighbor's home, too??? Yikes!

We have a whole-home surge suppressor. It's supposed to help protect your house against incoming surges, but IDK if it would work against something already IN your home? :(
