Let's talk printing

so, i've been using scrapbookpictures.com since i first started printing layouts, way back when.
  • i am extremely satisfied with the product i receive when printing - i know exactly what i'm getting when i place an order - that images will come to me full-bleed, in high quality, cut exactly the desired size and exactly matte or glossy or whatever i order.
  • they store images as long as i order 1x a year, so all my full-sized, completed layouts are stored remotely in case of whatever....
  • i love that they print the file names on the back of the images so i can sort them for albums (i always name files with date of photos first in the filename).
  • they offer $2 shipping (signed up thru 2peas)
  • i get my order within 2 business days no matter where i've lived (and that's been in a couplefew places)
i know there are other printers out there.

  • who do you use?
  • what convinced you to use them (ie coupon, sale, price, quality, service, all of the above)?
  • have you been a repeat customer?
  • would you recommend them to your best photographer friend?
  • who would you stay away and why (ie price, quality, speed of delivery, support, etc)?

For me it comes down to price.

This year, I had a 2-for-1 coupon at Inkubook, so I made a book with my 2009 pages (about 180 pages) and another book with my 2010 pages (about 120), and I paid a total of $150 for both, and that was including shipping.

If I had printed at Costco, it would have been
pages: $2.50 (price per 12x12 page) x 300 = $750
page protectors: $1 for 150 = $150
postbound albums: at least 2 at ?? $20??

So a minimum of $900 plus the cost of postbound books? I just can't justify that.

Plus, the 2 hardcover books I have only take up an inch of shelf space!

I used to print with shutterfly, until my daughter opened it for the first time and 3 pages fell out

I get albums done each year, works out cheaper. I get one year family album, and a school one for Bella. So now I use a NZ company, snapfish. They haven't fallen out yet :)

I use persnickety prints. I LOVE the service and the quality. I have never been disappointed. Shipping is flat rate of 4.95, but they do offer coupon codes through facebook and web site/e-mail. they ship almost immediately. It is ~ 1.99 for a 12x12, but you can pre-buy credits which bring the cost down slightly. I print my pages 6x6 - so I fit 4 to a 12x12 print. I would HIGHLY recommend them.

I started out printing with scrapbookpictures.com. Their quality and customer service are amazing. I printed in 8x8. Then I think they may have went up on their prices at one point so I tried a new company, Persnickety Prints I think, and their price was cheaper but the quality was still spot on. Now, I haven't printed anything for 2010 or 2011 so I am a little out of the loop right now. I am wanting to try AdoramaPix soooooo..... bad but they are crazy expensive. They are a more professional lab, I think, and that's why I am wanting to try their photobooks. I am trying to wrap up my vacation book from last year to have printed to check the quality before I go drop around $180 for a book that will only cover half of last year, eekkk. But, if it's as beautiful as I hope it will be then I will shell out the dough and do the photobooks from them from now on. One of the main reasons I want to try theirs is for the lay flat binding they have in their books.

love the quality of scrapbookpictures.com i've used them several times

i also just ordered single page prints from my pic tales and they were great quality. i was very pleased with them. $1 per 12x12... the best regular price i've found around. would use them again i think.

I print thru either Scrapbookpictures or PersnicketyPrint. 8 x 8's. I love both equally as much, so basically I order from whoever has the sale at the moment! I only order when there are sales as well, so generally a couple times a year to stay up to date! Basically everything you have listed that you love about scrapbookpictures Amy, is true for Persnickety Print!!! I am have loved these two places for the exact same reasons you have listed - all very important to me!

I've used Scrapbook Pictures and also I used to use White House Custom Color. They are a professional printer and their quality is amazing, but they are more expensive. Way back when I first started digi there weren't that many options, so I tried them and was very happy. They also have 2 day shipping and I was always very happy with the results. Then I started scrapping like a crazy person and couldn't afford to print individually. I've been using Shutterfly exclusively for at least three years and I've never had any problems with my books. I get really good coupons from them too, so I just fill a book and then wait for a coupon to arrive before I order. I got the last book for 50% off. :)

I've never printed a layout. ever. :whistle

I keep thinking I am going to but I just never get around to putting anything together, lol! I'm bookmarking this thread though just in case I ever do!

I'm going to post this here in case there are any other Brits looking for a print service! I use DS Colour Labs: http://www.dscolourlabs.co.uk/ and they are brilliant - very quick service and excellent quality prints. The price is good too, £0.88 for a 12x12 and £0.32 for an 8X8.

I've used Blurb for photo books and would recommend them too, especially if you have a book with lots of pages as they don't charge per page.

ditto, I've been dying to try them but they are soooooo expensive. There are a ton of printing reviews here.

Um... this stresses me out for some reason! LOL! I think if I had never printed any of my pages it would drastically change the way I scrap though. Sometimes I change my page design to fit more pictures so I have less pages to print... etc.

I am glad I started printing right away though because I've done thousands of pages in my 5 years of digi-scrapping. It would be too expensive to print all those at once now.

Jamie... how do you share your pages with other people? Do you just post them online and send out links? I'm horrible about posting all of my pages and I forget to send links to people.

I have been using Persnickety Prints for a while now, and am in LOVE with there print quality, price, and fast printing/shipping.

I rarely print *gasp* the few times I have I go with shutterfly. I tried Artscow once and had a HORRIBLE time with them! It took 3 months to get my book and when it go here they cutoff a bunch of pages and the color was messed up.. the customer service was horrible and rude to me also. I won't be using them again.

Yes, her review and the one from TDD are what sent me on the quest to try them. I love that they have a lay flat binding, that they will last longer than press printed albums and I am so excited about trying the 10x10 size. I scrapped 12x12 when I was a paper scrapper and my books are so big and cumbersome to drag out so I switched to 8x8 when I started digital and while I like the ease of the smaller size I really want something a little bigger so the 10x10 seems perfect. I just wish I could find some coupons or something.

I have heard the greatest things about scrapbookpictures.com and I had filed them away as "the place to print" for a long time. But when I finally got around to printing I tried Persnickety. They were running an amazing sale and I had heard good buzz about them as well.

And I was really really happy with them! The prints were AMAZING. Perfect bleed. Looked exactly as it did in my program..no cut edges (and as I do scrap the edges sometimes, I was concerned about that). Really high quality. Awesome customer service. ♥

I started with scrapbookpictures and for pretty much all of the reasons Amy mentioned, I loved them.

Because of some cheaper prices, I have tried a few other places (MyPicTales, ScrappingSimply, Persnickety Prints) and the only place I was happy with was Persnickety Prints. They have sales a few times a year where either it is 25% off your order (making 8x8 only .75) or free shipping (which is flat rate anyway). I have been super impressed with their customer service and how FAST they print. Even on weekends where they have a sale and tell you to expect a bit of a delay, I can order on Saturday night, it ships on Monday and is at my house by Tuesday/Wednesday.

I highly recommend them! and that is coming from a dedicated scrapbookpictures customer.
