Let's talk printing/binding

for you digi ladies (or any others who want to chime in, of course!)... :helpy

i'm using val's page protectors for my PL. but as i'm chatting and thinking and scrapping... how am i going to print or bind this bad boy when it's all done?

if i print individual pages then toss in page protectors, then the digi page protectors (at least on top of the stuff) is redundant. i could layer the digi pp under the stuff, i guess, then print so the divisions are still there.

or if i print an actual book.... ugh. i never, ever trust bindings, especially with the wear and tear my kids put on things... that was my original idea, but now i'm not so sure. i'd like this to last for years and years!

what are your plans/thoughts/ideas? if you've done something like digi PL in the past or P365, what did you do and would you do it again?

I'm using Valorie's page protectors, too, and am planning on printing a book when I'm done. I just printed last year's project at My Publisher and really like how it turned out. I had a coupon and thought it was a pretty good deal. I don't have young ones that handle my books, so I can't say how the bindings would hold up. Looking forward to hearing what others are doing. :)

I have about 20 printed photo books here and I love them!!!
Last year I ordered a photobook made of real photo paper, the pages are really thick (like a book for young children) and the binding is very good! I think that would be great for you.
I ordered it here in Germany and now almost every photo book printing company offers this-so I'm sure you will also get it in the USA...

I'm printing mine out putting them into a 12x12 page protector. In the future, I may decide to print a photobook, but for this year I wanted to be able to include inserts.

I'm doing hybrid PL this year but I did an all digi P365 in 2010 and never thought about the end product til I was about 6 months in. I guess I assumed I'd have the pages printed 8x8 like all my layouts and put them in an album. In the end I had to re-format all the edges because I decided to do a shutterfly book. I love it! The first one they sent had a few edges cut off or in the binding but they let me re-do it at no extra cost and told me to keep the original book. So I gave the "dud" to my daughter and kept the 2nd version for myself. I also don't have little kids now so I can't speak to the longevity of the binding BUT if you save the version you print you could always get another copy after the kids get older, if the first one has damage.

This is exactly what I have plans to do. I just got my shipment of 12x12 page protectors from Amazon tonight. I'm going to send mine out to Persnicity and then pop them in . I'm using Val's page protectors for my pages. I might throw in some hybrid pages too, so that's why mine will be in an album and not in a bound book.

if i were using the digi page protectors, i would probably print them in a bound book. i've printed several bound books with all 3 kiddos flipping through them, and they've held up well so far. I've printed from Shutterfly and not had an issue (yet). I do know that if you store them flat on their backs rather than vertical on edge, the binding will be preserved much better, so that may be a precaution you could take.

ty ty ladies! i forgot about the simple fact i could always reprint! lol. ah, the beauty of digi!

decisions, decisions!

I am on my 4th year of project 365. I do my pages 8 x 8 in size. I still need to get 2011 printed but for 2010 and 2009 I have used artscow. I have also used them for my kids yearly book. They are hard covered books that I get and I design the cover and back cover. They are a company in Japan so shipping can be a killer but I always order my books when they have sales so the books are almost free except for the additional pages and shipping costs.

I am thinking of printing mine in Shutterfly (or blurb). I also use digi page protectors ... but now I'm wondering if the center pages will get cut off. What about yours, Karen? Did they get cut off?

I've never tried Shutterfly. I did try Blurb with some regular scrap pages and had issues with stuff being trimmed off, because I like to scrap all the way to the edges. If I were to do a blurb book again, I'd pull everything (except the background paper) at least a 1/4 inch or more from the edges. You can turn on guides in their book builder and see what has potential to be trimmed off. (which I didn't do when I tried my book!)

Another published you might consider is inkubook. I haven't had trim issues with them and liked the quality. The run specials so watch for those.

Hope that helps! :)
