Have you eve been able to remove one successfully and been able to use your computer again - without having to take it in somewhere and pay a ton?

When I used to use a PC I believe I had one (or maybe when I was a teenager and it was on my parents' computer?) that was removed with no issues. I mean, other than needing to reload the entire system...but I'd rather do that than pay to have it fixed!

Yes on a PC. There might be a restore point you can restore to before the virus. If you have another computer to download a "Fix" to you can take it to the infected one as most viruses cut you off from the internet.

This is why I'll never have a mac. My boss will do this stuff for me for free if one of our computers gets sick.

I do have a restore! I know I do because I had to do it once earlier this summer. So if I can get rid of the virus I can just do that?

Oh, and yeah no Macs here ever again. I had one before and it had FIVE viruses attack and destroy my motherboard. There are viruses out there for Macs, they just aren't as common.

I have several times. I have restored my computer to a previous date and it has always worked. The only time it hasn't was on a computer that got completely screwed up by the virus that I couldn't even get to that function.

Viruses I've always been able to get rid of fairly quickly. Malware is a totally different story and sometimes took me a couple of days and several pieces of software to eliminate. I haven't had either in years, though. It was really only ever an issue with my ex-husband. He had some internet browsing habits that were lethal to computers. (Hint: rhymes with CORN)

I use Avast to periodically clean my OS. However, there has been one virus or malware that attacked my computer--one two years ago that forced me to buy another computer. Luckily most of my stuff was already backed up.

I always just google my issue. Sometimes my antivirus software can't get rid of it, but it can at least tell me what it is.
