Lego's

We are finally getting to the point on needing a good organization system. So how do you store and organize all your kid's legos?

we just use a large storage container and they are all mixed up together. There's nothing better than scratching around in it, looking for the perfect piece! The instructions I have in a plastic sleeve folder

This is where we are now too, big bin full of all the extra pieces. Seems like it would take forever to find the pieces you need though. He isn't complaining yet thought. Also have a basket for all the instructions.

I bought this:

a lot cheaper at the store. LOL!

I organized them once. Never again. They just mix them up anyway! ;)

the same here... karim still has duplos so i think it will be worse after he starts to play with the small legos... i have 2 boxes for his stuff and tried to organize them once, twice and so on... he always mix them up again :hairpol so i gave up organizing anything

I'm still trying to somehow keep the sets together. I don't know why exactly but I feel the need to have all the pieces together. It drives me crazy because my son always mixes them together anyway. In my head though I feel like if they are all mixed together he'll never put the sets together again because I know he'll give up on finding the right piece if he can't find it easily. I guess it doesn't matter much anyway because he usually ends up just making his own creation anyway and I think that's even better for him anyway.

We have a zillion Indiana Jones sets and then about 8 Star Wars set and I'm trying to at least keep the two types of sets separate right now. I just buy cheapo plastic totes with lids that are big enough for all the pieces and the instructions to stay together in one place.

We have a bizillion legos. There is no hope of organization. One giant bin and a separate place for instructions. I did at one time, sort them into colors and put the different colors in zip lock bags. Then I took the directions and organized the legos that I could into various kits (for the ones in their room) and put the kits in plastic bags. But that lasted about...oh...three months. Now I don't try. SpongeBob and Darth Vader are mixin' it up in the big bin.

we have a large storage container as well. and a shelf where all the finished projects go.
but there is CONSTANTLY legos all over the floor in the boys room.
ugh.
but i LOVE that my boys LOVE them.
i'd much rather them spend hours building with legos than watching TV or playing video games.
so i TRY NOT to complain.
ROFL

LEGOS everywhere here as well. Hung a shelf up in their room (a long one that goes the length of the wall) for all the completed projects like the HUGE pirate ship and Star Wars ships etc.... and then have a large bin full of MISC legos. We also tried organizing them all once and to be honest once they start playing with them they could careless how they are stored/organized! LOL! They all ended up dumped back together.

ALl of the instructions for projects are in a drawer in their desk. I love that they can sit and play with those all day!:yippee

yeh.. i use to keep them all organized by set.. and gave up. they're in a bin :p There's no way my 6 yr old is going to keep track of whether this grey piece goes with this star wars set or that one hahaha so i don't care either anymore

Sounds like the general consensus is to give up on organizing them and stick with a bin. So that is what I am going to do, until he complains...which I doubt he will. He has just started making up his own creations, love seeing that.

We have like several bins....we just have too many Legos....there's no such thing, right? :lol

We have a lot of legos, but we keep them all in their original boxes. My DH is Type A when it comes to that stuff. When they get mixed up, he takes the time to separate them out and put them all back in their respective boxes. And I have had to order plenty of missing pieces to get all our sets back up to snuff.

One of my scrap friends organized her kids lego by colour last year. I can't begin to imagine how long that took her.

We inherited my sister-in-law's Lego, and she inherited it originally from dh + his brother. So we have multi-generational lego. Each "owner" adds more to the collection. We've added quite a few of the Star Wars kits, but they end up in pieces after a while anyway.

Ours are in a big bin, but we have smaller containers for things like wheels and lego people.

My oldest is six and a half and becoming interested in small Legos. I hate them with a passion because they HURT when you step on them. He cannot keep anything, the men lose heads, the cars have no wheels... I hate them. Duplo sets, I adore. You see those before you step on them! All our Duplos are in a big clear box under the Lego table. Oldest son's are in a tupperware bowl... I refuse to buy more, he really just likes the people.
