Layouts VS. Photos . . . and the winner is . . .

This is awesome Cheryl! Hurrah that you're going to start printing books! I am SO happy that as soon as I started digi scrapping I started printing and I've kept up with it. I have about 2-3 albums with individual pages but the majority of my pages are printed in Shutterfly books. I have printed (31) 12x12 shutterfly books with 100+ pages in them plus a couple misc books and vacation books. Whoa! That seems like a lot after typing that out.

I've done 3586 layout since 2006. I have pictures from September through now to scrap. I don't know how many photos exactly, but according to my excel planning list, I have 30 pages to do to get current. (unless I need a couple double pagers) I'm hoping to knock out about 20 of those this weekend. I'm scrapping with a friend all weekend! :)

you have every pic in that excel sheet or just 2015?

I have Excel sheets for 2016, 2015, 2014, 2013, and I'm halfway done with 2012. I'm slowly but surely working my way backwards through the years before I started this system (which was in 2013, I think?).

my kids laugh at me, I now print books for 2 month increments. About 61 days. I usually have 45-50 pages for each book! Some pages have 10 photos, some have one, and gosh, I have done pages with NO words too! I love this hobby exactly because I can see my work, and so can my family and friends! As long as I keep snapping pictures and the designers keep designing I shall make pages!

Wow! Interesting question. I scrap our family albums by year and print them as books - 2 volumes of about 50-80 pages each. Let's see 2013, 2014, 2015 are done; 2016 is current until I take more pictures. I am working on 2012 right now. Vacation albums for those years are also all done except for about 10 more pages in the 2015 book. I have also created & printed many special books along the way, as well as lots of calendars.

Of my over 74,000 digital pictures, I would say the majority of them are scrapped - either digitally or in traditional albums. Now the sad part is I have a 20 year gap of printed pictures from 1979 to 1998 that are not scrapped at all. Some day I have to get back to traditional scrapping or start scanning.

And here you were mocking me for having 1595 photos and we are just barely into March! :rofl :luvya
I need to add my layouts to Lightroom. So I have no idea how many I have.
I do know I have plenty of photos, current count: 83,084. I haven't added in the couple thousand I scanned two weeks ago yet. But, if I ever get bored, there are 9 children after me, and my mom has only been working on the baby.

I will say, I had a friend who was "caught up". She was always bored, and begging to scrap other people's photos. Or taking her kids for a photo shoot to have something to scrap. I don't want to be there.

Brainless here, don't want to think about the balance I have....
I would be devestated I guess....

I have been caught up a couple of times and I hated it too. It's always my goal to get "caught up" but then when I do, I lose my mojo and don't know what to do with myself. Lol. Thankfully it's always a temporary thing because there's always another holiday, vacation, summer, sport season, birthday, etc. :)

Wow!!! I thought it was awsome that I have 670 layouts.....but that is nothing compared to you all. I will say they are printed, which is awesome.
I do not have lightroom, so I do not know how many photos I have left. I am in the process of trying to "catch up". I organize my photos in folders by year and I have 2015, 2014 and half of 2013 left to scrap....the rest are done (2005-2012), which I love....
I have worried about what I will scrap if I ever do catch up....but with 3 kiddos and one coming in about a month...I think I am safe for awhile. Plus I can then using my time to scan on and scrap pre-digital camera photos and photos from hubbies phone or photos from my mom, who always has a camera with her so I know she has lots of photos of my kids/family I could use. But first, I will conquer the ones on my computer ;)

I don't worry too much about the past. Scrapping is just a current and forward looking endeavor for me.

But I love @gonewiththewind 's attitude regarding the ability to "buy buy buy" and "scrap scrap scrap." I wish I wasn't plagued with frugality! Cheryl, do you own kits you've never scrapped with yet?

Yes, I do have kits that I haven't scrapped with yet. I'm a roll right now, though, with my scrapping, and I've used about 7 kits that I have had for a long time and never touched. I have a folder full of stuff still to go though . . .

I want to be organized like Cheryl when I grow up :) I do have most things in Lightroom sorted by year and it's currently showing just over 26,000 photos, but that's not all of them. I think I figured up the other day that I have scrapped around 3,000 layouts, give or take. I still have sooo many photos of my older kids when they were young that need to be scanned and scrapped. They were 15 and 11 when I started scrapping, so I have a lot of years to catch up on!!

Well on the positive side, I found 1,363 layouts excluding the ones I have here. ALL of those are printed and in albums or books. If it's not printed, it's because I only print in large batches through Persnickety. (Just got another 50 credits at last week's sale. :byay) However it''s the photos. At age 71, I can only deal with the ones that exist in the years since digital but it's the ones in old albums and boxes that plague me. I really really don't like scanning and yet I hesitate to take them out of the albums and send them off to be scanned. I'm thinking that I may see if one or both of my granddaughters would like to be paid to do a bunch.

In Lightroom I have about 16K but that's only ONE iPhoto/Photos library. I just exported another library this week to put into LR and cull cull cull. I seriously doubt if I have enough lifetime or eyesight (!) left to do it all. Maybe I just need a 2nd lifetime. :angel

I just figure I'll do what I can, and it's more than I was given! I think I need a few lifetimes to tackle it all!

And you're so good to print so frequently!
