Kitchen Aide Stand Mixer

they have a sale once a year up to 40% off retail prices
First, DH loves our Kitchenaid stand mixer. We got it for our wedding 16 years ago and it's still going strong, even after it wobbled off the counter and slammed into the floor. Anyway, he loves his. He doesn't have any of the attachments but my MIL has the grinder and uses it all the time. But, back to that quote...when the heck is that sale?! I told DH and he said "What?! We gotta go!"

I'm in the handbeater club, do you all keep that monster sized thing on the kitchen bench year round? It's huge & I don't have space to fit it in a cupboard so it's never something I thought about getting - we do have the pasta maker, the one like my Italian grandmother had, it's fine for lasagna sheets & flat spaghetti /fettucine & such & wasn't much more than $30 here too - let me see if I can find one on amazon

it’s this weekend and apparently it’s going to be a really big one this time.

This is the main reason I don’t already have a stand mixer. I don’t have a place to put it away in a cupboard, but I think it would be too heavy to put away anyway. If I get one it will have to live on the counter.

we had one like that when I was a kid and it made the best pasta!!! We (my sister and I) ruined it by using it to cut paper strips. Oops. Lol.
lol i never thought about it as a an early model diecutter!

I have the KitchenAid Artisan Stand Mixer in Red. The metal bowl with handle is in the dishwasher because munchkin used it for pancakes and homemade whipped cream this morning.

I also have the pasta attachment, Ice cream bowl, and our newest addition is the spiralizer attachment. In fact, the spiralizer is in the box by the outlet. I haven't found a more permanent home because we use it so often!
@bellbird Yes! I totally keep it out on my counter all the time. Even when I was in a tiny, 500 sq ft apt it was allowed a place on my nonexistent counter space. It has earned its place on my counter though.

I love it. I routinely make bread in it despite being told I should have a bigger motor for that. I have had it since 2007. My favorite attachment used to be the ice cream maker, but now it's the spirializer. The pasta maker works fine, I just don't make as much pasta since that tends to be a last minute oh-crap we need to eat dish at my house.

I've had to replace both the whisk and the mixing blade this year. And DH oiled it once. I make sure to clean it off, especially when flour puffs everywhere. It's really easy to use.
Munchkin, age 9, is comfortable using it. He can get the metal bowl on and off, and change out the missing blades. He also can use the spiralizer, although I have to set that up for him.

It's heavy. And solid. I wouldn't recommend pulling it in and out of a cupboard, because you probably will just stop using it.

I don’t know which model I have but it is a beast, it’s been dropped and dented but it still works. Mine is 20 yrs old.

I'd love to know what the pasta maker is that you have... $30 would be a great Christmas gift idea! Just in case I don't get the mixer.... although every one here is pretty much convincing me that I should! :giggle That's so cool that you have your Dad's anniversary edition mixer too! I love that!

Karen, we got ours at Bed Bath & Beyond, but I just googled it and it is available at many stores.. here is the same one we have found at Walmart... I have the pamphlet too for it and it is called "Pasta Machine" but looks just like this:

Karen, also from Costco. Online only and this is also a great price.

I was already going up to Costco tonight !!!! so I'm going to check if this set is available in store. The link does say 'may be available in stores with lower price.' or words to that effect.

Karen, I have one used to use it a lot baking when Dick and I got married but...we gained too much weight. Now it's in a cupboard and only comes out when chef son visits. I also have the grinder which I've used to grind pork but I can now easily buy ground pork in local stores. However, I had planned to put it up on a counter this coming week when Dick is away. Those jobs are best done when he's not in the way, if you know what I mean..

and arms get tired more easily as you age... I say from experience. I got fed up with holding a hand mixer for that reason.

I got one about 6 years ago and wondered why I didn’t get sooner! You won’t be sorry!

@cookingmylife
Ooops sorry didn’t mean to say you couldn’t get it in stores didn’t see this at mine so just figured it was an online only.

I think I'm one of the only people I know that doesn't have one of these mixers! . . .

Nope! I've never had one either. :) And it's not because I couldn't use one. I cook and bake plenty. I have just always used a hand mixer, food processor, or blender.

I have been wanting one for years. I say go for it ... at least 2 of you will be using it and that sounds like it is well worth the money. Good luck at the Whirlpool sale this weekend! Let us know how you make out!

Well... while I was scrapping all weekend, my hubby went to the sale and I'm now the proud owner of a stand mixer! I bought the 4.5 q in silver for $160. It wasn't on sale as much as I thought it would be, but I still think that's a decent prize and it was a fundraiser for the United Way locally, so I was good with that.

They only had that size/color and then the big 6 quart version in apple green. They had a bunch of each... but no other colors or size combos. I'm pretty happy with the size and where I found a place to put it on my counter. I didn't get a chance to even use it yet though. I'm planning to start small and make some pumpkin muffins tonight. I can't wait to play with it! :agree
