Keep slaying PRD!

One of my goals for the year was to learn to crochet. It's September and I haven't started yet although I bought everything I need to get started!! This kit is super cute...maybe it'll motivate me to get started and create two projects at once. :)

I agree, it is a super cute kit. I am a crochet fan, too, even though I haven't done anything in a while.
The elements are adorable.

Do it, @rchansen! I am more of a knitter than a crochet-er (crocheteuse?). My crochet never came out looking great. This summer, I found out I wasn't holding the yarn right. It's a little awkward, but I swear it has made me faster ,and my end result is actually something I'd want others to see.

Not to take away from. PRD but Dawn Inskip made one last SOSN also.
Yay designers.

I love this kit! Perfect timing to show off some Pokemon Crochet! Pokemon, crochet and PRD - what's not to love about that!!!
Here is my latest page and for those who know the basics of crochet (trust me, I am pretty much a beginner, these are pretty rough) these can be turned out very quickly. The patterns are free and she is dropping off little crocheted Pokemon's to Pokestops near to where she lives. Such a fun story. The kids want me to do his as well, so looks like that's going to fill in my spare time for the next couple of weeks... (just go to her Facebook page here - Nichole's Nerdy Knots or on Ravelry)

no wonder years ago when i crochets, my tension in stitches were so bad, i didn't hold yarn that way.

I don't think I could do it that way. But it's interesting to see. I don't knit the same or hold the yarn the same as most either.

Thanks for the heads up on the Dawn Inskip kit! Probably overlooked it as I don't feel I understand art journalling.
As for holding the yarn. I taught myself knitting in university. I pulled out a mitten I was working on in front of my aunt once, and her reaction was, "It looks right, but I can't figure out what you're doing with the yarn. It's looks like you should be knitting backwards, but aren't."

My new goal is to learn portugese knitting, which is apparently faster and easier on the hands.

I "can" knit...well, make a basic scarf! I cannot crochet for the life of me! I think it's a one or the other thing with me! LOL

Loving, like the entire BYOC this month, but wanted to give a special shout out to Pink Reptile Designs who clearly read my mind when she made that knitting/crochet related kit!

Yes!! It is awesome! Straight in the cart as soon as I saw it!

I never crocheted like this either. My Mum always said I crocheted like a knitter, my yarn hand moved more than my hook hand. I did my first amigurumi about a year ago and the way I was doing it fatigued my hands quickly, so I tried it this way (almost) and I haven't looked back. My biggest issue now is chaining, lol. I hate chains!

LOVE LOVE LOVE!! I have been looking for some good patterns for Pokemon, and most of them either aren't very good or cost quite a bit. Thanks for sharing!

What is the difference between knit and crochet ? My grandmother knits, with needles. I can't even count the number of times she's tried to show me. The one with hands (I assume crochet) looks like I could pick it up much faster...

...like I need a new craft.... bwahahahah

Cute kit! I knew how to knit and crochet at one point in my life but I haven't made anything in years. My mom taught me to crochet and I think it was easier to pick up. I taught myself to knit from a book, so it was a little tricky at first. But once I knew the moves it was fine.

Like you said, knitting is with two needles and the stitches stay on the needle. Crochet is done with a hook. As you crochet the stitches lay down and the hook is to go through the stitch on the previous row to form the new stitch.
That's not the greatest explanation. Crochet I think is easier to learn. But that depends on who is teaching.

My mom once knitted dresses for a dress store in her home town. I am sorry i didn't learn from her.
I did crochet and embrodery long time ago.

Oh I've almost given up on trying to knit...Maybe this fall when it really gets cooler. Maybe my dil to be will be able to teach me.

My Nana crocheted with that fine thread almost like lace weight and my mother knit all her life and ended up making some really great projects. I had no taste for her designs - too too for me - but now I see that she finally had time and money to make elaborate artistic things, the kind you see selling for a fortune as ART.

My dear (and I do mean that) MIL crocheted also but if I never see another granny square I'll be happy! she also, sadly, used cheap yarn which tends to have unusual colors! or that variegated color yarn. She also covered anything she could get her hands on with crochet....toilet seat covers, tissue box covers, covers for wine bottles etc. They were the stock of every church bazar table back then. Maybe they still are?

This reminds me of one of my fabulous/eccentric aunts, she made so many crocheted rugs and in that cheap acrylic wool - it sort of squeaks when you rub it. I recently learnt to crochet just by watching youtube videos and now make lots of fun things - I say they are for the kids but it's just to keep me entertained...

This was the ultimate crocheted item to own in my childhood -

How much did I want one of these? So sophisticated in the 70's..
