Welcome to the Muse, we are continuing on with July's theme of THE SEA and this week we are exploring a common sight seen at the beach:
Week 2: THE SEA - Rockpools
Rockpools, or tidal pools, always bring back a lot of fond childhood memories for me. I can remember spending lots of summer days at the beach during our school holidays. Some rock pools were big and we used jump into the sun-warmed water to swim and splash around. Or for the smaller pools we used lay on the rocks beside it and watch all the little creatures moving around below us, carrying their snail-like shells on their backs. Such wonderful carefree memories of when I was a little girl.
So for me, they evoke a playful and nostalgic feeling of being a kid again, even though these days I just like sitting and looking at all the different vegetation in them, the different colours of broken up shells or how the shadows form pretty patterns on the sand at the bottom of them and I also like taking photos of them as well. I also love watching Daisy, our little fox terrier 'chase lizards' ie. the little tiny fish that get caught in the pools when the water goes out.
Daisy just jumps in and splashes around after them, not catching anything but having a great time! lol!
Do you have any memories or feelings when it comes to rockpools? Have you ever played in them, photographed them? Do you have any thoughts in regards to them? Perhaps some of the following ideas might help in creating your layout this week:
- memories of childhood
- the little creatures that live in them
- the patterns made of seaweed against rock
- or the textures of sand and shells
- any other thoughts or feelings you may have when you see them
Challenge for Week 1:
This week I would like you to create a page about rockpools using any of the ideas listed above or the inspiration board below. If you doing a 4 part layout this month along with me, then you will be up to part 2.
However, if you would prefer to just do a single full layout then that is okay as well.
Added twist: Add some bokeh/magic lights and sprinkles.
Inspiration Board:
I found these images on Pinterest and have created an inspiration board that may be of help to get started, along with some quotes and a color palette, but you can use whatever quotes, wordart or colours that you like.
As always, please use the images on this board to jump start your inspiration but do not use any of the actual images. Even though they are from Pinterest they may be copyrighted.
Color palette:
My page:
I went with real photos for my background layer, blending a stock photo of some feet with one of my own photos, and just wrote some text on what I feel when I see a rockpool at the beach.
Template Information:
If you are interested in downloading any free templates with the page divided into 4 sections to scrap with then please see the last week's post for the download links HERE
Challenge for Week 2
You can use any products in the Lilypad store or retired products from current Lilypad designers, (just make sure you follow our gallery guidelines).
Looking forward to seeing what you all come up with this week.
