Hi all,

This morning I finally got to watch @gonewiththewind Cheryl's June's BYOC video that she recorded live at the beginning of the month. I know I was dozing in my recliner LOL and never attended, but I always go back to watch her process videos. Remember to hit SUBSCRIBE on her YouTube channel. :-) She is getting close to 1000 subscribers (currently at 924), let's make that happen for her!

Anyway, I digress. In the video, @bestcee Courtney had mentioned a book she had just picked up: 3000 Questions About Me. - yep, own it (see below)

And it got me thinking about the books I own about journaling. Here a just a few that I found in my stash. Do you have any others you could recommend? My b-day is coming up in August, and I always love to treat myself to something for my special day. :-)

3000 Questions About Me - I picked this one up in 2019. It offers 15 questions on each page with a small space to answer each one. At first I started going thru the list and recording my responses, one by one, but I found it more fun to just open the book randomly and answer a few questions there. I date my response, so it is fun going back to look at how I answered something.

The Book of Myself - I am pretty sure @gonewiththewind recommended this one somewhere and she talked about it in the process video. Each question (there are 201 of them) allows for a full page of journaling. While I like the prompts, I've not had the courage to write in it and mess it up with my sloppy handwriting.

The Photo Scribe - A Writing Guide. No clue as to where I discovered this one. The sub-title is "How to Write the Stories Behind Your Photographs". It is a process book, no space for hands-on writing but it does give you lots of ideas.

The Ultimate Guide to the Perfect Word - Linda LaTourelle - Quotes, titles, words, a reference book that is broken down by topic. Gosh, I need to refer to this one more often!

Quote Unquote - Vol 2 - Inspirational Quotes for Meaningful Moments A spiral bound book in a fun size (4 1/2" by 10"). In addition to lots and lots of quotes, each one is artistically placed and written with a mixing of fonts or word emphasis. Great inspiration for titlework!

What About the Words? - Creative Journaling for Scrapbookers (a Memory Makers book). In full color, a layout on each page with a discussion of design and journaling. I almost was tempted to not include this one since it is a "pretty pages" book more than a journaling book.

It All Changed in an Instant - More Six-Word Memoirs - I really should explore and pick up more of these. I just love capturing a story in six words, I love the challenge of it. And the examples are so thought-provoking.

So can anyone offer any more suggestions?

You are so sweet! I would love to reach 1000 subscribers this year! And thank you for being such a faithful viewer of my videos.

Yes, indeed, this is the one I talked about. I was writing in it daily, but then life happened and I need to get back to it. What I particularly love is that the book is divided into EARLY YEARS / MIDDLE YEARS / LATER YEARS. So you'll have different responses for each time period.

Thank you for all the suggestions on other books as well. I'll have to check all these out!

I'm impressed by your collection of books on journaling! I do not have any -- anymore. I did have one or two in the past, but weeded them out a while back, along with many other books.

I thought I was already subscribed to Cheryl's channel, but I went to look and found I wasn't. Fixed it! :tu

@gonewiththewind Looks like you have another subscriber! Way to go @michelepixels . And I see that Cheryl is now up to 927 subscribers.

Well, I picked up another six-word memoirs book this morning, the first one. Amazon shopping is way too convenient. :-)

@michelepixels I definitely have too many books. Tons of them on scrapbooking. Lots of older scrapbooking magazines. I would love to donate the magazines to our local library. I contacted them a few months ago, but they were under construction, putting on a new addition. So they asked that I call them back and then life got in the way.

These all look interesting.

I'm looking at this one: The Photo Scribe - A Writing Guide
I want to be better about journaling about my photos.

My mom just got this one: Mom, I Want to Hear Your Story: A Mother's Guided Journal to Share Her Life & Her Love.
They have a bunch in their set. The questions are more in depth like "whats your definition of success" and "Do you read your horoscope?"
Along with the regular mom history type questions like children, parents, family history, etc.

I also have a few others. I'll go get the titles in a few.

Thought I was subscribed but not to Cheryl's channel, so now I am. Ordered two of the books too. Looking forward to browsing thru them soon.

@mcurtt

❤️❤️ thanks for the information...I subscribed to Cheryl’s channel and ordered a used copy of the photo captions book.
Hoping you enjoy your book. I have these for reference, and I forget that I have them. :crazy3

Liz, I think it is quite detailed. It isn't a large book, only 127 pages, but it is packed with ideas. Interestingly, the author is a man. On the back cover, he says that the photo album is a natural medium for recording stores behind the photos. :-)

Well, I'm not a mom, but it sounds like it could work for anyone. Maybe even taken from a daughter's perspective?
And yes, please share your journaling books.

I also have picked up a few about writing memoirs. DH (with my help) put together a Blurb trade book (6x9) with some of his early scrapbook entries (from his mother), letters he wrote to Santa and his parents. It progressed thru the years, includes his paintings, photographs (a few award-winning), music he wrote, prose and poetry. It ended up being around 80 pages long. We are both pleased with it, but looking forward to the 2nd printing when we have more items to add to it. One of these days, it'll be my turn to compile my story. I think I'll concentrate on the early years.

Rae, score for subscribing to Cheryl's youtube channel! You will have to let me know what you think of the books. And if you can come up with any more that sound interesting, please share.

@mcurtt I am wondering if you have ventured into the Bella Grace - Field Guid magazine series from Stampington? I like plain old Bella Grace too. They are filled with journal prompts and the pages are not the typical glossy stuff - so you can write directly in the magazine. The pictures and writing are gorgeous in my opinion, quite the inspiration. Bella Grace has more articles and photos while the Field Guid is 100% journaling.

No, I haven't. I used to subscribe to Legacy. I believe I have all that they published. Then Somerset Memories, Digital Studio along with Art Journaling. I stopped subscribing around 4 years ago when I realized that I had nowhere to store them, and I didn't have the heart to give them away. I may have to pick up one of the Field Guides. It sounds interesting. Thanks for the suggestion. :yup

Here is a book to recommend:

This was a book I picked up as part of a scrapbooking class I took eons ago with Cathy Zielske called Me the Abridged Version. It was a project to jot down random bits about yourself using the alphabet as a prompt. So we started with a blank journal and label one page for each letter of the alphabet and then we jotted down stuff that started with each letter as a way of capturing your personal history. After doing the journaling bits, we created one digital scrapbook page for each letter of the alphabet to make and Encyclopedia about ourselves. I totally loved that class and actually finished the whole thing and printed an album at the end. The pages looked kinda like this (I can't find mine anywhere online anymore to link up)

Thanks, Karen. Amazon appears to be down right now. I went to report it and lots of people already have, so I'll have to shop later. The book sounds like a fun read based on the comments.

If you ever do find that link for your A-Z book, I'd love to see it. Back in 2007 when I was working on a couple of heritage books for my family, I did an A-Z page for my mom and another for my dad. But it was strictly going from my viewpoint since both of them had passed... One page per letter sounds quite impressive.

Sidenote: My mom's book is part of a 24 book set, all with a different person focus - there's a couple one, a sister, daughter, father, etc. So you may find one more to your taste.

And yes, please share your journaling books.
I know you've been waiting a bit, but mum just left. So, I found them:

1) Encyclopedia of Me My Life from A to Z
This one is divided by the alphabet, complete with the half circle cuts at sets of letters for easy flipping. Each letter has some pages with a title? prompt? Line? at the top starting with that letter. For example: A has Applause, why I could use a little. Then a lined page to write on. Another example: Again, did it but don't need to ever do it. Nothing, What I'm doing when I'm doing. I just got it, so haven't written in it much. I can't remember who recommended this one to me? Holler if it was you please!

2) 3000 Questions of me (already discussed)

3) 1001 Conversation Starters for Any Occasion: The Complete Book of Questions
This is less of a journal junkie book, and more of a question book. But, some of the thought provoking Pad Patters I've shared have come from here. It's a list book, divided in groupings. Like Blast from the Past: When did you get your first traffic ticket? Share the details. There's not really room to write in the book, but it makes a great starter for a separate journal or scrapbook page.

4) The Story of a Lifetime, A Keepsake of Personal Memoirs
This is gorgeous. It's got gold-edged pages and feels heavy and fancy. Inside, each page has mostly 2 or 3 sections with questions and room for about a good paragraph of writing. There's a few pages with one question and a full page to write. It's divided into 20 sections. Options include: Teen Years; Golden Years; Love and Marriage; Independence, Work, and Career; Regrets, Mistakes, Milestones, and Turning Points. In Teen Years, there's questions like What slang expressions were popular during your teen years? In Love and Marriage it asks: What was the hardest adjustment you had to make that first year?

If you are a gamer, we also have a 3 year Mario journal that Munchkin uses when I remind him. It has prompts like: Which Mario character would your dad be? It has more serious ones too like what do you like to do? But, the gaming tie-ins never fail to amuse me.

Hoping you had a great visit with your mother. Thanks for taking the time out of your day to give me a few more options.
