Having just taken my iMac to Apple to be sure there was no bug/virus/malware/'broken bit' for its current slowness, I have started to seriously think about a PC laptop. (btw, there was nothing wrong with my 2011 iMac that unplugging it didn't help! How could I have forgotten that!

In any case, did you get a new HP and if so...which one? and if so, how't the test run been?
If all of this has been answered somewhere, mea culpa! Just link me to your answers.

Hi there, Maureen! It's being built as we speak. Yay! I went to Best Buy to check them out - HP Envy or HP Omen. I've been waffling over and over, and forever it seems. I got an HP Omen, and I'm excited. The biggest difference for me was the actual build of the HP Omen versus the the build Mac and the coloring. I know weird, but I think it's actually a good thing. Brand spankin' new. I wanted to make sure I liked how it felt, lol! I liked it, and then ordered it, and now it's being built. I should get it early next week. It's a monster.

There are pros and cons, but I think it will all work out! (It better! :giggle)

My boys will use my old MBP and the iMac. If Apple ever came out with a 17", we shall see... but I don't think they ever will.

I hope yours is all better! Worries me when they get slow and start to get buggy!

Thanks Jenn! Costco had a bunch of HPs on sale in an email which is why I asked but each had something I didn't want or something I would miss e.g. coming with only 8GB. uh no...!

I hope yours is a dream! and works the same.

Thank you, thank you - I hope it works well too! :) I'm nervous, but excited! It is SO hard to find everything you want, and still not wonder about the other laptops!

Is your Mac still giving you problems, or were they able to fix it? I know they have magic fingers at that Genius Bar, :giggle. At least in my mind, they do! If only, they could have magically made one 17"!

Yes, they did all the diagnostics and found nothing. I used to know the 'trick' of unplugging it back when I had years of PCs at work. Now with the iMac I tend to forget that and having it unplugged seems to have mostly solved the slowness problem. I'm really good at keeping it in the best shape "i" can with purging, deleting caches etc and my female genius kept saying...Oh I'm glad you do that ..or do you do X? Oh that's great. I felt like I was getting a gold star for my forehead. :angel

LOL! I can picture it! It will help it last longer, so that's a good thing! :)

or something I would miss e.g. coming with only 8GB. uh no
Depending on the specs, most of them can upgrade to 16 GB. It's a pretty cheap upgrade if you get a great sale price, and it's a super easy thing to do on most HP laptops. My envy, it was a matter of popping the back open, pop the RAM out, pop in the new RAM, and close it up. Lots of Youtube videos.

Good to know @bestcee that it's as easy as upgrading the memory as it was on my iMacs over the years. I bet 'shoving' the memory in is a bit easier. I always need dh's thumbs to do the shoving. bwahahaha
