I've had a migraine all day...

Normally an ice pack and a dark room helps, but today, nothing is touching this one. Unfortunately, I am limited to just Tylenol for headaches, and it hasn't helped at all.

So...tell me how you get rid of a headache. I need suggestions!

:[ I feel ya.. there's not much i can take in means of relief either. I end up just sleeping till I don't feel like I'm dying anymore. ((hugs))

:( I'm sorry - migraines are the worst! Tylenol never touches my migraines so I always have to take Motrin and drink some form of caffeine. If I can, I go to a dark room, lay down, close my eyes, practice deep breathing and place my hand over my right eye/right side of my forehead and apply light pressure (I always seem to get migraines on the right side). Usually this helps. I hope you got some rest last night and are feeling better this morning!

I need a good solution too! I have a combo tension/migraine headache that has been fading in and out daily for the last month. I went to see the doctor who gave me a shot of a strong pain medicine to "break the cycle". It worked for about 24 hours and then the headache came back. I plan on calling the doctor again today. I've used cold migraine patches in the past that you stick to your forehead or neck. It's helped.

Okay... this sounds really weird, but for some reason, if I have a migraine and medicine isn't helping, I'll crave/eat a couple of tablespoons of parmesan cheese and then have some Mt. Dew as a chaser and it will go away.

If that is too weird, try to slow down your heart rate and breathing, increase your body temp and start to tense and relax all of your muscle groups (start from your toes and work up to your head).

Or... acupuncture. But that isn't a DIY. :giggle

So sorry you are suffering.

So sorry you don't feel well. I don't have any suggestions but I want you to know I'm thinking of you and hoping that nasty headache goes away soon!

Good thing I didn't see this yesterday or I think acupuncture would have become a DIY fix - it was that bad.

I finally broke down and took Excedrine. Not supposed to (for other medical reasons), but in the end, I was desperate.

I take daily low-dose amitriptyline (Elavil) for preventing migraines which normally works and has cut my headaches down from 4 a week to maybe once a month, but yesterday was the exception. Phew! Glad it is over!

I feel terrible for you, because I suffer these too, and I also can't take most meds. I can't have caffeine because of palpitations and tachycardia, so that eliminates most migraine meds. I eat more when I have a migraine since sometimes they are caused by low blood sugar. Then I just sleep away the day. I wish I could come up with a better solution.

I spoke too soon...it's back. Going to finish my Digi Dare page for tomorrow and slink back to bed. Do you think sewing pins would make good acupuncture needles? (kidding) Sigh!

One of my sons suffers with them...and he's like you Heather, and without meds would have 4-5 a week. I had to homeschool him...it was awful. His started when he was about 2. He's 26 now and he takes Inderal every day. It's blood pressure medication and now he gets one about once a month, and they're usually not too terrible. He has Imitrex and Naproxen if he does feel them coming on. Maxalt used to work for him, but after eating them like candy for a few years, they don't work anymore.

I don't get migraines like him, but I do suffer from really bad headaches. I take vicodin for mine. It doesn't make it completely go away, but I can numb a bad one so at least I don't feel like I'm dying.
