Eeep! I just realized I only have 41G free on my laptop harddrive! It is getting SUPER full! It looks like I definitely need to sit down and get all of my backups and document / photo clean-up done ASAP!

How often do you clean up your digital closet? :giggle I don't do it nearly as often as I should.

What are the key factors for you for keeping your stuff clean and de-cluttered? I could use some pointers...

I keep things on my laptop for a couple of months & then I move them over to my external hard drive & then use ACDSee to be able to find them. I feel strongly though that I need a 2nd external.

yep, we've been talking about getting a 2nd EHD as well... there's one in particular that hubby is eyeing. It will auto sync every so often with both the laptop & 1st EHD.

I've tried a few different ways to organize my scrap supplies, but I haven't found something yet that's quick & easy to keep up with. I need to figure out something because between digi supplies, photos, and layouts (full, flat, and low res copies) on my hard drive, it's filling up quickly.

I thought you were talking about your living room... post-Christmas :giggle. That's what I need to clean, hehe.

Re: my hard drive, it's all the time filling up. When that happens I get rid of all the extra files (PSD's when I have TIF's), extra TOU, etc... but that never helps much. I then start deleting stuff. However, I'm always backed up on 2 EHD's as well before I delete anything.

I really, really need online back-up as well for extra security, but haven't found one that works well enough. Right now I back up my full res LOs on Persnickety (b/c that's where I print them) and my pics on Shutterfly (sometimes). A lot of other photo sites don't save pics as full res.

I need to clean up stuff too! I'm low on space and my computer is running slow. I have a Mac and I have a time machine for backups but I think I need to move all my digi stuff to EHD. Anyone know good ones to use for Macs?

In the meantime, I've been doing a little cleanup - getting rid of old blurry photos. I also got some space back by sizing down all the templates I had. I never print at 12x12 so I made them 8x8.

In addition to the time machine, I use Carbonite for back up. I'm so paranoid about losing things!!!

Amazon has the 1TB Toshiba Canvio EHD on sale for $48 today (HERE) and the 2TB for $99 (HERE) and I've had the tabs open all day while I debate whether to buy one. I've never bought a Toshiba EHD - I'm mainly Seagate and Western Digital - but that's a pretty good deal for USB 3.0 drives.

Oh, Peppermint - you are such an enabler! ;) thanks for showing me that deal - some girls collect shoes, I guess I collect ehd's!

I keep all my photos but the last year and current year on my EHD, unless I'm working on a specific project. The rest are on my EHD and online backup.

I have a Seagate 3TB 3.0 EHD that I kinda recommend. It works great, except it has a sleep function. I don't know if it's the combo of Windows 8 and the drive, or it's just the drive, but it will go to sleep and I have to wake it back up to use it. (Yes, I've changed every setting Google has found for me.) I use BackBlaze as an online backup for everything, and Flickr/Persnickety Prints as my layout specific online backup. Flickr will allow you to redownload the photo in full res, so I upload all my layouts there. Persnickety gets the ones I print out.

I don't know what to do about my supplies. I'm only a year into digi, and so it's not a problem...yet. But I'll be watching for ideas!

I have 3 EHDs. Actually, I have 4, but one of them is completely full. :) I only keep DS goodies on my EHD, so I need a back up of my EHD...and I need a back up of my back up. :stashI try once a month to back up my purchases. After Black Friday/Cyber Monday, I unzipped right after I purchased goodies and then I backed everything up that day. I never have my laptop's HD more than half full.

I had a HD crash before I ever bought my first EHD and I don't want to go through that frustration again. So now I might go a bit overboard with EHDs. And I'm going to give the full one to my parents. Not for them to use, obviously (like they'd even know how to plug it in rotfl!), but for loss purposes: if something bad happens here, I want an EHD in another part of the country for safe keeping.

Have fun "cleaning" your computer!

I rarely delete anything on my EHD... I just buy a bigger one when it starts getting full. Then I transfer everything to the new drive and keep the old one for back up or whatever. I also have two other drives (one at home and one at work) that are my main backups. I'm on a 2TB right now and that's not even half full, so I should be good for a long time.

Now my house. Ugh! My sister and her family just left and we've been cleaning all day. I've already started taking down Christmas stuff so I can de-clutter!

My laptop is old and doesn't have a lot of space on it so I keep my digi files on a small EHD (take this with me when travelling). I also backup onto another larger EHD for a second copy and that stays in my office. I do try to go through folders every 3-5 months or so and delete digi stuff I know I won't use.

Haha, this is me and the hard drives on my desktop PC. I've tried to go through and make decisions on what to keep but in the end it's just quicker to put another drive into it.

see, i think that's what i need to do - clean up my photos and digi files and DELETE stuff i don't need... blurry photos, duplicates, old kits i'll never revisit, etc.

sounds like not so much fun. but needs to be done i suppose. *sigh*

my poor laptop is old, slow and small (139 gigs). It fills up so fast. One of my externals quit showing up on this comp so I had hubby buy me another. It is a Toshiba 1T. I love it so far.

I have a horrible confession... I don't back anything up. I haven't even got CDs or DVDs or anything... I really need to look into external drives etc. I feel like a bad person..! x

Juliette!! You're not a horrible person... BUT... if you're like me, you would feel crushed if your photos got lost!! At least back those up. The rest can be replaced.

ugh you all started something... backing up photos yep but dang I still need to go through the huge amount of scrap stuff I have!

Shhh that's a naughty word organising scrap stuff,no seriously I need to format my laptop so that I can organise my stash but keep putting it off

I only keep to-be-used CT supplies and web-res LOs on my laptop HD. I back up my photos & LOs to my Flickr pro account, and everything else gets backed up to 2 other EHDs.

I usually only keep the last 3 years of scrap supplies. There are exceptions (mostly alphas), but that's my general rule. I also do not keep any kit (especially CT) if it's something I really don't like or have any use for. I will occasionally split a kit apart (mostly for the alpha -- seeing a pattern?!) if I only like a couple pieces from it, but that's usually more time than I'm willing to invest in digital organization.

I have a 1TB EHD that is almost entirely full. I have *got* to do some cleaning out plus buy another to use as a back-up.

In general I try not to keep scrapping supplies that are over 2-3 years old. There's too much new stuff for me to go back and use old designs. :) I also try to go back and delete all the PSD layered layouts at the end I the year after I've already printed them. That definitely frees up space.
