Who is getting the iPhone 5?

DH and I still have the 3GS so are happily upgrading. I haven't been able to take photos with the crappy camera on the 3GS so I'm hoping that a new phone will let me keep my DSLR at home more.

I wasn't too impressed with the new features of the 5 over the 4S but figure I will go ahead and get it because it is newer and because I have been waiting so long for it to come out.

Now I am trying to decide on a case from here. This is the case I have on my current phone and I have loved it.
 
I was waiting for the iPhone 5 to come out so that I could take advantage of any price drops on the 4S! I don't have an iPhone right now. I want to get the iPhone 4S with Virgin Mobile, but was hoping for a price drop. So far not yet. I'm with Virgin Mobile now, and their iPhone plan is only $30/month with 300 talk minutes, unlimited text, and 2.5GB of data before throttling it. I've done the cost of ownership analysis over 2 years, and the plan with Virgin Mobile beats out all other plans by hundreds of dollars.
 
That is an amazing plan deal! So for Virgin Mobile, do they charge you more for the phone but you make up for it in plan costs?
 
I have the 4S and am not eligible for full upgrade until May, at which point I might as well wait to see what comes out in Sept/Oct?

Yes, you pay for the full price of the phone up front. But like I said, I've done a spreadsheet cost analysis over two years comparing VM versus The Big Three (AT&T, Verizon, Sprint) and you still end up saving hundreds of dollars by going with Virgin Mobile.

I saw a tweet from Ellen DeGeneris yesterday saying that Siri told her that the iPhone 5 looks too thin, LOL.

I'm not due for an upgrade until March so we'll see. I would upgrade for the better camera alone. lol! I take lots of photos with my phone since I always have it on me plus I'm sure my iPhone will be overtired by then. But again, we'll see. ;) Love that case, Carolee!
 
DH got a new Android last December and broke it in February. We had no insurance so he has been using a non-smart phone that doesn't even hold a charge for a long time now. I am due for an upgrade but he is going to take my upgrade :( I am now wondering if I should be selfish and ask if he wants my old iPhone and I can get the new iPhone. Would that be mean? He did get the last upgrade and broke it. Does anyone know anything about the changes in the camera?
 
i'm happy w/ my 4S. by the time i'm due for upgrade, i'm sure it will be the 10! :)

Um... no one takes my upgrades under any circumstances.
 
Yep, I just pre-ordered mine and my husbands...we've got the 4 and were eligible for upgrade! I'm so excited...and thanks for the camera case site Carolee...going to have to order my favorite!
 
I think I might wait until the iPhone 10 comes out like Angie - I think it might be as tall as me :)
 
I got the 4s last year and I'm still in love with it. Honestly have no desire to upgrade. My BFF has been waiting for the 5 to come out so she could the 4s - she called today and the price for the 4s at Verizon has already dropped to $99!
 
I'm getting one, I am so excited!!
I have had an android smartphone that I got for free for like 2.5 years and it drives me crazy freezing up all the time. We were overdue for an upgrade and would have been just as happy to get the 4 or 4s, but DH was all "go ahead and get the new one!" who am I to argue with that?

And those cases, Carolee....so awesome! Do they protect it really well? We have always had otterboxes and I am scared to try something different, but I love those cases!

They are a hard and thin plastic that covers the back and sides. The one I have fits my 3GS like a glove. I've dropped my phone a couple times and nothing has ever happened to the phone or the case. I am the type of person who sticks my phone in my pocket a lot so I like it not to be bulky.

I don't think it would come close to having the protection an Otterbox gives you. I had an Otterbox and couldn't deal with how thick it was. So I guess it depends on what you like. I don't think these Society cases give you a ton of protection but they've worked for me.
 
Carolee, those cases are awesome!! I need to browse the site.

I had a iPhone 4 and the on/off button stopped working back in June or July. DH is good with electronics so he took it apart to fix it but he couldn't, and the phone wouldn't work after that. Thankfully I was eligible for an upgrade so I just got a 4S (and he did too). I was trying to hold out for the 5 but none of the upgrades really make me want it. By the time I'm eligible again they'll probably be gearing up to release the 6!
 
Are those cases rubbery, or slippery? I usually just buy cheap ones on Amazon, but those are pretty cute. But they have to have the right texture to them, or I won't want it LOL
