So... the company I work for is letting me pick an iPad as an award for working there for 25 years (which I can't believe I'm old enough to have worked somewhere for that long!) I can pick between an iPad Air (4th gen) 64GB or an iPad (9th gen) 256GB. Which one would work best for any type of scrapbooking on my iPad? The iPad Air has a USB-C port so I think I can plug in a thumb drive and use files from that. Right now I mostly use my old iPad for watching Netflix and art videos on YouTube, but I don't want to pick the wrong new one if I eventually want to be able to scrapbook on an iPad.

Apart from the app scrapping, which keyboard is better? The iPad Air works with the Magic Keyboard and the regular iPad works with the Smart Keyboard. On my old iPad I bought a knockoff keyboard clamshell thing that I absolutely love! It makes it almost like a laptop.

Help! Which one should I pick?

I would go with the biggest screen and biggest storage!

I don't use a keyboard with my iPad, but I also don't scrap on my iPad. I have a friend who use Procreate to scrapbook though, so I don't think a keyboard is necessary.

That's my conundrum... they are making me pick between the bigger screen OR the bigger storage. Oh the horrors. Lol!

I would also go with a bigger storage option. I use Affinity and the Over app (now called Go Daddy Studio) primarily, but I also have project life app and procreate. I decided I was using Amazon Drive as my scrapbooking storage, but iOS doesn't play very nice with Amazon apps. I don't pay for enough Dropbox storage, and Google Photos and Project Life don't play nice together on my iPad, either.... so... I'm glad I have the storage space so that I can download supplies and photos I'm using in the moment, and then delete when I'm done (never have the original copies on the iPad). Since the iPad is my *only* iOS device in my house (we have androids and PCs), I don't have a very easy time transferring data. It would also be ideal if you don't have great wifi connection all the time (rural areas, for example) or traveling.

I don't have a keyboard for mine, so I can't give any tips on that... I use my apple pencil religiously. I didn't know at the time that other brands will sometimes work that are cheaper... and also that not all the earlier iPad versions support apple pencil. So I'm glad mine did.

I bought a knock off Apple pencil a couple years ago thinking I would use it for scrapping on my iPad, but I've only dabbled because I usually get frustrated that I don't know how the program works and end up back on Photoshop. :giggle The knock off one works pretty well, but yesterday I went to Best Buy to play with the different iPads and keyboards and I also tried a real Apple pencil for the first time and I love the rubber tip on it. Mine has a metal tip that is loud and makes me worry about the screen a little bit.

Thanks for the tips too. I will have to figure out the best transfer method once I get my new iPad at Christmas. I do have a iExpand thumb drive made by Sandisk that is USB to Lightning so I can transfer files to and from my iPad with that, so that might speed things up over having to download. I bought that a couple years ago when there were some movies I could not get downloaded off my iPhone for whatever reason. That was the only way I could get them off and then I never had trouble again after that. It's a pretty handy little device!

Getting frustrated is so true. Lol. I've learned procreate does not do well with a lot of layers, for 300dpi, so hard pass on using it for layouts I want to print. I quickly gave up caring about that app when I learned this.

Affinity I like, but learning curve. I have watched tons of videos from fellow scrappers. I bought the desktop version to try to help myself become acquainted, but quickly moved back to photoshop elements on my computer... actions, scripts, and styles won my heart. :giggle

I was just looking at those the other night!! I need to get one. I think some iPad can't handle thumb drives if there's too much space, so I was thinking a smaller one with just a small amount of supplies might work well. :)
