We stepped outside to watch the ISS fly through space over us. I have never watched it fly over us before. You can'treally see much, but still sort of interesting.
Much better than watching the possible-presidents bicker. :giggle

@corsicar thanks for the link! it even has a place close to us in there (love a good international dropdown menu) and DH seems to be able to read it - he waved his arms around explaining it to me and i nodded - numbers are not my strong suit but hopefully we can see it for 6mins on Monday!

It's cool! I used to be signed up for text messages when it would be overhead in the next couple days. I haven't gotten one for awhile....hmmm...

Awesome! Thanks for the link!
We were out the other night looking for the rocket that was taking supplies to the space station because we were supposed to be able to see it briefly, but we missed it. Looks like we may be able to see this for about 4 min tonight. Cool!

Last night was pretty warm, humid and overcast here...couldn't even see the moon.

I fell asleep so early last night. I am wanting to get outside at night to get a good full moon photo but have been too tired! Sounds neat though Courtney.

Did anyone get a peek at the recent meteor shower. I forget exactly when it was. Maybe a month ago or so? My husband went out late one night and said it was pretty amazing! I'm really sorry I missed that!

@jenn mccabe I haven't, but that'd be cool to see! My husband is a space fan. He watches as much as possible, though we can't see a lot of it here... too close to the city lights. He got a telescope as a gift/reward thing at his work, and after my 4 yr old did a "space" themed lesson week, he brought it out to show her planets and the moon and whatnot. super fun!

@klee73010 This is the project my husband has been on since about the time we were married - 2001. GOES-R I jokingly asked him back then when it would launch and he said in about 20 years! from the time it was just a twinkle in Uncle Sam's eye. Every time he puts a date on the calendar, there's a delay and there was a big one from Hurricane Matthew. Sadly every time he goes through the process to get permission to have someone attend with him, each delay causes that person to have to drop out. Most of them have planned to fly down though my Mr. Bicycle will drive down - with his bicycle!

I watched the Perseid Meteor Shower in August and even got a photo after sitting outside with my camera for hours :) It's not a great one, but I got one!

Thanks for the link! It's great. The closest town to me is 45 minutes away, but hopefully we will be able to see something anyway!

That is brilliant!! I was sick and it was raining when we were able to see them (or a different shower) in Australia.

We live 40km out of town in rural Australia so we have a gorgeous night sky to look at, no city lights! We often just sit out on the veranda and watch the satellites pass over, including the space station. When the grand kids were a bit younger we would all sit out there and star gaze and have competitions to see how many satellites we could spot! You would be surprised at just how many satellites are up there orbiting the earth! The best time is on dusk, especially with space station because it is so big, as it catches the last rays of the sun and its really spectacular to see this very bright light flying silently above us. I would dearly love to buy one of those BIG telescopes! The heavens are just so brilliantly awesome!

Cool! I'm going to check it out and see if we can see it here. :)

how cool. it was overcast many of the nights so that's a big reason i didn't even try - but my husband went out during a quick break in the clouds at like 2am. TFS! :)
