Today we celebrate girls, and pray for girls who live in areas where being born a girl is seen as a bad thing.

So to celebrate I'd like to see photos of little girls who are now members of the Lilypad, or if you don't have any, then photos of you now! Have you scrapped any photos of you when you were little?
Here's a little me.

Have you had to struggle as a girl/woman in your culture?
I've had to overcome some biases, but generally here in the UK being a girl didn't prevent me from accessing anything. The grammar school I attended had some old fashioned ideas about stereotypes in school, but as my parents didn't like stereotypes that didn't restrict me.

No struggles for the most part. I am one of the lucky ones. Of course the typical teasing of wearing glasses etc at a younger age but that was it.

No photos of mine in the web, but for sure I'm gonna scrap a page. I grew up with a mom that hated herself for being woman, and a dad that loved women and see them as angels on Earth, especially women in his life, for fortune, I learnt from him that there's no difference among women and men, and that all of us we are able to achieve our dreams, I have brothers, and our dad gave us equal chances, and treated us equally, forever thankful with him for all what he gave me. I too pray for girls who live in areas where being born a girl is seen as a bad thing, actually breaks my heart when I think about it.

I really didn't have any struggles because I was girl. I mean I did go to college for engineering and was sometimes the only girl in my class, but it was never really a barrier for me. Maybe I was too dumb to even know there were barriers and I just did my thing and got on with life, but I never saw any discrimination because of being a girl. I'm very thankful for that!

Here's one of me as a young girl: :giggle

Have you had to struggle as a girl/woman in your culture? Thankfully no. My heart goes out to those who have.
Here's a recent page featuring little me:

Almost 2 years ago I scrapped these photos of little me. I don't think I have experienced any limitations because I was a girl, but my mom did. In high school (she was class of 1965), when she expressed interest in becoming an architect, her school advisor told her no, women couldn't be architects. One of her hobbies when I was a kid was drawing floor plans of dream homes. I learned from her how to draw on graph paper to scale. I used to rearrange my bedroom furniture on paper before moving the actual furniture.

My daughter is really a wonderful mix of her father and me. She got the best from both...although she might disagree about getting his ear shape.

This one includes some photos of me as a baby and little girl.

I can't say that I have been disadvantaged by being born female.

I could only find one layout in the gallery with a photo of me as a kid. I was in the 5th grade.

My mom was absolutely a feminist when I was growing up, so I was never raised with the idea that there wasn't anything I couldn't do. But I was also raised that women in the US did face discrimination. I can't say she wasn't right. We don't suffer like women in other countries but I don't believe we are treated equally.
