I have been trying to sleep longer than 3 hours for the past 4 days....
I take a lot of medication so if I don't program will, I tend to either wake up in pain and not able to go sleep, or being relatively more comfy (would say pain free but that never happens)

I know a few of you have this same problem...
what do you do to get to sleep?
can you sleep during the day?
I'm stuck, welcome any tips

I do camomile tea, read, take some herbal remedies made of valerian.... but I seemed to have run out of effective stuff ...and I need to be ok tomorrow as AGNES is arriving on FRIDAYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ugh... I'm sorry that you struggle with this. I can't even imagine. My whole personality changes if I'm over tired as in I'm not very patient or nice to people around me. My family will gently suggest I go take a nap when I get like that.

I have a friend whose son had an awful time going to sleep at night and then would be over tired and mean the next day. They started giving him a melatonin pill at bedtime and that worked wonders for him. Some people can't use a screen of any kind a few hours before bed because that can mess with your melatonin levels too. Hopefully you'll find something that helps!

wished there were a couple hour apart chats, for when can't sleep

Cynthia, we must be kindred souls. I have rheumatoid arthritis for which I also take a gross amount of medication which I am trying to get off of. Sometimes its pain, sometimes its just a busy mind, and sometimes who knows..... but I am a terrible sleeper. My average is between 3-4 hours consecutively. On top of the medications I have to take I hate to add sleeping pills or something like that too so .... well you know - its a struggle.

Here are some things that have sometimes helped me.

  • Eat an early dinner so you are not digesting half the night.
  • Make sure you are not too hot and not too cold - I find a warmer room temperature with fewer blankets works better for me, but for my husband its the opposite... (i often wander off to the guest room at night)
  • I keep a sticky note tablet and pencil on my bedside table - I can empty my busy mind into a jotted note and then relax.....
  • I absolutely hate to be woken up by a blaring alarm so my husband and I bought a sunrise clock which slowly lightens the room starting 15 min before its time to get up and the stress of anticipating the alarm is gone.
  • this one sounds funny but a lot of people who wake up a lot check the bedside clock frequently. We also bought a clock which projects the time on the ceiling so I can glance at it without maneuvering around waking myself up further.

I've tried all kinds of herbs and tisane too but its getting my head in the right place and being able to relax that ensures my good nights sleep.

I have been medicated a muscle relaxant that also is supposed to help me fall to sleep - but its only great for a few days then its like my body gets used to it, so I tend to only take it when I've had series of days battling the insomnia.

I read, I sometimes pop lavender oil on my pillow, I try to nap in the day if I can, but other than those, which don't always work I suffer it, not much help I know - but I'm at a loss with it.
Mine is not frequent, but enough to wind me right up LOL

Vicks: after Sarita finishes Uni or gets famous in West End/Broadway/Hollywood (because SHE WILL) I will move next door to you guys- That way we can at least be awake and have a laugh

Lindzee....thanks so so much, the clock is a true thing....the one that wakes you up I saw something here not long ago, will look into it...the one with the projection would be genius for me!!!

RA is not an easy condition to deal with....I'm here most of the time, just give us a shout if you feel like venting, anything..... God knows I would be lost without my scrappers sisters who put up with me moaning!!!! :heartlub

i get it once in awhile and it will last 3 or so days. usually when i'm stressed about things. i have no ideas of wisdom for how to handle .. i usually just zombie around until a good night sleep hits me. i try to read ... but end up reading an entire book when insomnia hits and it just doesn't help.

hope you can get some rest so you can enjoy your visit with Agnes. fun, fun!

Not any more since I started Isagenix nutritional and cleanse program! I sleep through the night, no meds needed!!! It is FABULOUS!!!!

Oh, life is so hard when you suffer from sleep problems. Sending a hug Cynthia!

I have some issues, but not daily. It's more just the mind doesn't want to sleep, but would rather think. I don't take any meds, but do breathing techniques. I start with 10 deep breaths and count as I go. Eyes closed, through my nose, out through my mouth. After the first set, I then increase my set to 20. I've never gotten beyond that count.

If you can lower your heart rate, and possibly relax (and in my case concentrate on breathing), I fall asleep.

I've also heard great things about Melatonin. For you, I would just check with a phone call to your doctor, just in case, and see if they can recommend the amount and if it would be ok with your specific medications. I know it's natural, but I wouldn't take the chance.

As for staying asleep, I don't open my eyes. lol! Really, when I fell down the stairs and sprained my back, I couldn't move much, and would wake every so often, I'd try to move, and get shooting pains. I learned to slightly move, and just to get comfy enough, and keep my eyes shut. If I don't open them, and then start my breathing then I would fall back asleep.

I do not sleep during the day. If I do, I'm getting sick.
If you can sleep during the day, limit the times and when so that you can fall asleep later at night. That might take some getting used to.

As for tea, check that it is caffeine free. Some have more caffeine than coffee.

Hoping you have a great time with Agnes!

Thanks !!! I will have a look Kim & Laura.... waiting for Sarita to be out of antibiotics as we have bought a tea program for detox....then I ll be able to organize and try ....

I am a terrible insomniac. Terrible!

I do use melatonin but I've also recently incorporated 4-7-8 breathing and it helps tremendously.

Laura!!!!!!!!! :heartlub:heartlub:heartlub THANK YOU!!!!!

I slept 7 hours!!!!! :woot

it wasn't the first time I did breathing control/exercises though, I can't believe I didn't think of it for the sleep...

similar exercises are used in singing classes, drama, (yoga of course, as he says) and my therapy when I was agoraphobic and having panic attacks was almost same!!!!

I reckon we should post this in a separate post (I can do it-)

I can see how it can work the way he explains -for everything- so I'm thinking my smoking and over eating will be helped by this too!!!!-

Thanks so much, amazing lady!!!!!

I sleep terribly. I try not to nap during the day or then I just feel worse, but sometimes if I can just get a 10-15 minute cat nap in, it helps a lot.

I have heard that the skin of some frogs can have a soporific effect Cynthia :giggle

Ugh. I hate sleeping issues! A couple of things that are important for me:

1. keeping the same schedule - getting up at the same time every day and going to bed at the same time
2. a little lavender oil to mist on my pillow
3. definitely no caffeine (including chocolate) after lunch
4. keep the temperature just a little bit cooler at night
5. no clock by the bed so I'm not watching the minutes tick by
6. sleeping meds :)
